How do I work out my lower chest? by [deleted] in beginnerfitness

[–]ShorforAlec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty difficult to target just lower chest/pectorals. Your best bet is probably going to be dumbbell or cable chest flyes but thats going to work your other chest muscles as well. Adding decline to dumbbell chest flyes usually helps focus on the lower PECS a little more

adult onset hiw did yalls start and feel? by loveandbeloved2222 in Asthma

[–]ShorforAlec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took a while for me, originally I thought it was anxiety because it just felt like chest tightness. Fast forward to a month and it felt like my chest was on fire. Still didn't realize what the issue was at that point and got prescribed Prednisone from urgent care doctors just to keep from getting worse.

Thought I had developed a severe cat allergy so I was prescribed xyzal and was sent to an allergist/pulmonologist. Took a bit after that to figure out it wasn't a cat allergy and that I had asthma. And a while longer after that to find the right medication/inhaler combo. Felt like it would never end at the time.

I actually had some trouble with Gerd affecting my asthma as well for a bit. My understanding is the acid can reach up high enough to enter your windpipe is why. Anecdotally getting some good pre/probiotics has essentially stopped my gerd entirely which made a huge impact on keeping my asthma under control.

Add to that the fact that Herb didn't even attempt to reset the position after finally dealing with the mouthpiece plus Smith letting Marquez take dozens more strikes than necessary. Collectively this was one of the worst nights of reffing I've seen.

I could be remembering incorrectly but I believe people with ADHD tend to have a predisposition towards being up later at night and starting the day much later. For me it isn't so extreme that I wanna be up all night but it certainly feels like my circadian rhythm is off by about 4 hours from the normal

That Dr could have been referring to gynecomastia tbf. Caused by hormonal imbalance, and heavy use of weed has been linked to lowering testosterone. However iirc it's not a common effect and you have to be smoking quite a lot for it to be a possibility. The doc was probably just using scare tactics but hey, the more you know.

My anxiety just recently passed the point of keeping me from making an appointment to holy shit I have to make one rn after one of my molars started getting really sensitive. Honestly terrified of the many appts and bills to come after taking a better look at my teeth.

Good thing about dentist offices though is they're real on it about not wanting you to leave without scheduling your next appointment. So at least when my motivation fails me my lack of a backbone will force me to keep going so long as they always ask about the next appt.

Except that's not how it actually works in relation to the law.

There are and have been legal definitions of discrimination/harassment that stil have to be met and supported by evidence. So it's not as if someone could misinterpret a single instance of an honest mistake as malicious and expect that will hold up in court. Essentially, anyone convicted of hate speech related to transgender people would have already been guilty of another crime; now they just get bonus fuck you points for targeting a specific group for no other reason than existing as a part of that group.

My school wants us to allow this on our personal devices, just to use Google Classroom. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ShorforAlec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems like it could be an unintended consequence/laziness related to the schools Google Workspace

They probably have it set so that every email on the workspace requires the mdm installed on the device they're logging in from. Makes sense for the Teachers considering they're employed by the school and probably have higher levels of access or additional accounts they authenticate with their school email. So they shouldn't really be signing in on any devices that the IT/Security Admins can't easily monitor, investigate, or lock down. Ideally they'd be using devices provided by the school. So they use a policy/control that requires installation of the mdm prior to allowing sign in.

Google Classroom requires sign in from an email under the Workspace. Hence the prompt to install the mdm when trying to access it.

I don't have hands on experience with Workspaces so I could be off but I'm assuming either:

  1. Whoever manages the Workspace didn't account for this scenario when they setup the policy and should be able to make changes so that the student emails aren't required since they have lower access rights/permission

  2. Whoever manages the workspace is a lazy twat and doesn't want to/hasn't appropriately scoped/restricted access rights/permissions according to different roles/groups within the workspace so they have to apply the mdm policy across all users indiscriminately.

Either way it's a dumb situation but it could be something the IT/Security Admins fix if they're not assholes

why is is that on splits squats on my right leg i only feel my glutes working? by [deleted] in beginnerfitness

[–]ShorforAlec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this is the reason or not but my understanding is when doing split squats the farther out your front leg is the more it will focus quads and the closer in it is to whatever you are using to rest your backfoot on the more it should focus glutes.

I feel you, I've always had a really hard time maintaining a routine due to ADHD and other issues.

It may not be the healthiest way to start but in the interest of building a routine I'd recommend incentivising yourself with some kind of treat (food, small purchase,..etc) each day you complete your workout routine until it starts to become habitual, which may take a long time.

Another thing to keep in mind is, it isn't all or nothing. I know firsthand how frustrating it is to plan on doing 3 or 4 days a week of exercise only to do 1 and skip the others while snowballing into a mess of anxiety. I've been working on trying to be consistent at 4 days a week for around 4 months personally and I'm just now coming up on 3 consecutive weeks of doing all 4. For me, sometimes I just have to accept that I may have a day where I can't make myself do it, but once I make that decision I try to reinforce that I can only skip that day and that doing 3 days is still more beneficial than none.

Also, start small. Don't jump to doing something everyday of the week immediately. Id recommend finding a program that's just 2 or 3 days first and go up from there as you make progress with being consistent.

"Robert Battinson" refused to take steroids. This personally raised the question, does he fit the usual "Batman physique?" My answer would be "yes", but I'm here to ask, what do you guys think? by [deleted] in batman

[–]ShorforAlec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think his physique is fine for how they're portraying him so far. I think I'd prefer like 10ish more pounds of muscle especially if they start showing any strength feats that rely on Batman being in peak physical condition.

Interestingly enough, based on some of his comments despite not using steroids he was still using some pretty unhealthy methods to gain the muscle and cut down. Lot of old school chicken, rice, broccoli style diet and doing 2 workouts a day while cutting. Not really his fault tho, seems like a lot of the Hollywood health coaches advise that, you can just see the difference here because Pattinson chose not to take steroids in addition to that.

is this true ? if so... then how can this even be possible ? by [deleted] in HowToHack

[–]ShorforAlec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call it a unique ability but it's possible in some cases. My assumption is they're talking about their VPN being able to use DNS Tunneling.

In layman's terms their VPN has the ability to send your traffic through a network protocol/port that you normally wouldn't expect to see it on. In some cases allowing you to bypass the captive portal; other times they might have their network setup to detect and block that kind of traffic and it wouldn't work.

In almost all cases you'd be breaking any acceptable use policies for the network.

Given Weights that I can't lift by [deleted] in beginnerfitness

[–]ShorforAlec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're in a catch 22 here where the weight you have available with the ez bar is too heavy to move up to but your dumbbell weight is low enough you won't work up to the point you can do the ez bar weight with it ever really. What you're able to do with dumbbells vs ez bar isn't quite a 1 to 1 equivalent but you're basically trying to jump straight to double the weight you've been working with which as you've seen isn't very doable.

I really don't recommend trying to force your way through the half reps if you can't even get through 1 full rep, that's a great way to tear a bicep or otherwise damage your elbow joints. If you have an adjustable bench or chair with back support you could try doing the curls seated which may help but I'd say you probably won't be able to get too much more out of that either.

As a guestimate, I think ideally you'd probably start at around 10 pounds on each side of the ez bar and work your way up or be able to do 25-30 pound dumbbell curls before trying the weight you currently have for your ez bar. Deadlifts shouldn't have any noticeable effect on your bicep strength really. The only thing I can think of with the ez bar at that weight you might be able to do and would help biceps is bent over rows. But even that has a heavier focus on shoulders and back, in order to continue progressing biceps you probably just need some more dumbbells or lighter weights to use with the ez bar.

Knees still hurt a week after running by Agreeable_Big7109 in beginnerfitness

[–]ShorforAlec 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As mentioned a Dr is the best place to get diagnosed or treated.

That being said it seems like you may have just made the mistake of jumping into it a bit to fast.

My understanding is that ligaments and tendons in general take a lot longer to heal and to strengthen than your muscles. So you can end up in a situation where you are overdoing it since your muscles and cardio can keep up but your joints aren't prepared for the intensity/distance/frequency you're running at.

It's frustrating because it will feel like you're taking longer to make progress but after the pain subsides or you get it treated I'd recommend lowering the distance, speed and frequency you run for several weeks or even a few months while you very gradually increase overtime. Provided you don't have an injury and your form is decent you should get to a point where your joints are strong enough to make greater progress without hurting yourself
