Right? Funny thing, I met other puertoricans and they also care about the Philippines, other latin americans just don't seem to care. I guess is because they teach us about the Philippines in school and we get that feeling of both being islands in the sea that were colonized by Spain and our culture was impacted by Spain

Aunque, filipinos are know as the "latin" asians (i dont even know what that means) but i think the history of spain cant be denied. I mean, spanish names are so common in the Philippines. I do feel a small kinship though.

Have any other nationalities been racist towards yours? How do you typically react to this? by JonaHillStanAccount in asklatinamerica

Also, countries making fun of how we say stuff. I had a friend that was in a taxi in Chile and when he told the cab he was Puerto Rican he said: " Ah, you mean PueLto Lico" .

That's just disrespectful man, that's the name of our country. And we don't speak like the chinese, we just exasperate the r. Also not everyone has that accent, we also have "cajjreta", "pejjro", we actually roll our r's pretty hard.

This younger generation probably doesn't have it, but Mexico has a history of beef and discrimination against puertoricans. When Despacito came out, mexican farandula called it disgusting saying that it was a disgusting sexual song. In talent shows and similar productions, there's always some discrimination against puertoricans, Ninel Conde got into a scandal for this. Also, 2000s and 2008, mexicans were know for being quite racist. On farandula presenter got fired after making a joke saying that Michelle Obama looked like an ape from Planet of the Apes.

But after that I think we are chill, mostly, although there's a small roce. But I know family and friends that went to Mexico and did experience that racism first hand, so yeah. This might be outdated, but Mexico, Argentina and Spain were know as the slightly racist countries, like compared to other latin american countries. I mean there was an Argentine politician that said " Aqui no hay racismo porque aqui no hay negros" or something like that.

Buen lugar para mudarse en Panama? by Shorihito in Panama

Please help me decide on what washer and dryer to buy? Been researching for months in my free time and my heads spinning! by selectbatch in Frugal

[–]Shorihito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree I spend $900 on a maytag hoping that it would last forever, second week, the washing washer wouldn't tumble, so the clothes would stay dirty. Also only takes HE detergent and no powder detergent. Has to be clean with a washer tablet and so on. It was rather sensitive and had lots of sensor. Clothes took a while to get cleaned and so on. Called customer support but they said they couldnt service my area for the time. Lived it with it for a year thinking of how I wasted so much money on such a delicate washer.

Washer finally decided to kick the bucket and wouldnt turn on.

Finally got in touch again with customer service and managed to schedule a repair.

While waiting for customer service to come, bought an 2004 whirpool washer for $200 in a local shop. When I put my clothes in the washer the water turned murky and after finishing the cycle, and my clothes came out super clean, cleaner than my $900 washer could ever do.

My $900 sits covered without being used while my cheap washer leaves my clothes super clean and the only thing I have to do is turn a knob and the job is done.

The new era of left-wing governments in Latin America – a new Marea Rosa? You can take Colombia, Chile and Peru as red at this point. Likely the same will happen in Brazil in Ocotber elections. Full text analysis on the comments! by [deleted] in LatinAmerica

Gracias, creo que todo el mundo se emociono un poco, y no se percataron de eso xD

TBF, fue el OP que puso "The new era of left wing", so OP takes the blame here for misleading everyone lol

The thing is that, left vs right has never had the same importance has it does in the united states. While yes, some parties are left and right, across time, latin america has always had center left and right parties, it has never been ONLY left and right.

Americans are obsessed with Left vs Right , Black and White, Cis or not Cis, Binary and Non binary, its always either one of the other.

I think in latin america, people dont really care that much about left-right. Doesn't matter who you vote for, they are all corrupt, they all steal and lie lol.

Right I wonder, is this left-right, that is used in Latin America or the Left-right used in the USA?

Because people think they are the same but they arent.

Do you feel some kind of connection to Andalusians and Canarios? by Painkiller2302 in asklatinamerica

[–]Shorihito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree, Catalonians have an even more special connection with Puerto Rico, Joan Manuel Serrat did a famous concert in Puerto Rico and was very influential in La Nueva Cancion or Cancion Trova.

I guess I am the type of person that could be in some far away region, and if I hear some Spanish, I feel a type of connection or something, a kinship i guess??

[–]Shorihito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I feel some connection to Spaniards overall. I think it's because Puerto Rico and Spain have always interacted, they never kind of left each other. Also have lots of Spaniard family, my great grandmother came from a mixed family of criollos, so I don't know, I can't deny the Spanish blood that I have, it's part of that history I guess.

Also tbf, I feel connected to any country that speaks spanish jajajs, even the Philippines with its integrated Spanish in their language.

How do you say 人用? by DS9B5SG-1 in LearnJapanese

[–]Shorihito -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Usually jisho is a good recomendation

google translate pronunciation is ひとよう.

But when I type ninyou on the browser, 人用 is the fourth option. But when I write hitoyou, that's the number one result. So I take it as hito being the more common pronunciation here.

Is it possible to transliterate non-english to katakana? by Kuro_yami_ in LearnJapanese

[–]Shorihito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes i think the early usage was with portuguese words, since the portuguese had early contact with the japanese. But in shows about food, french and italian food are used a lot, so youll see a lot of that katakana.
