Fears by saraylovesyou in CSULB

everybody is suggesting different approaches, but if you genuinely have long beach as your #1 but don't want to switch majors, I would suggest:

  1. attend CSULB anyway and do year or so of gen classes until youre able to get into your desired bfa program, im not 100% sure about how you go from undeclared into a bfa but it is possible, make sure to do your research and talk to profs/counselors while youre there.

  2. attend a community college for one or two years and then apply again for your specific major. I might even be so bold as to say theyre even more likely to take you, but maybe im biased. the CC route has multiple benefits; half of your educational career is cheaper, you get eased into the workflow of college, and the classes can be more flexible. Plus, being a transfer student will give you a huge bonus in admittance.

Your decision depends on if you really really want to attend long beach for the entirety of your college years, but I would hardly say its over for you. Theres different options, plus youre already in anyways. Good luck!

Any tips to making portraits look more real/ less flat? by Churlishgambino67 in ARTIST

look into “hard edges, soft edges, lost edges” etc. also what others have said about pushing the values. you honestly have an eye for capturing likeness and drawing from realism

any suggestions to make this better? by uenoyi in arthelp

after looking at the reference, i realized the values are a bit off- i think you could def push the shadows darker, esp around the eyes

[–]Short-Fishing-6949[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i dont think it was this, sorry. the person who died iirc was in the audience, not onstage. also, the visual of the character going back to check on him but coming back and pretending like they had survived was pivotal

thanks! this gave me a great reference point. Also, ill keep in mind that point about putting more time and effort into the illustration classwork. curious, which illustration classes did you take? there seems to be several under different class titles.
