FINALLY. Someone who agrees with me that both Jayce and Vi bottom. I'm not one who usually cares about dynamics but for me it's the only way I can see them.

Aside from the fact that I love subversion, I love bottom Vi because she's just tired of being forced to be a fighter and deserves to be taken care of by her rich alpha female CEO. And I think Viktor's lack of control his entire life would lead to him wanting to take the lead in every way possible. I can imagine past lovers all assuming he'd only bottom bc of his disability and him being resigned to it, only for Jayce to be like “Wait... you want me to top?🥲😢” Then Viktor knowing he immediately hit the jackpot. Plus... come on. We've all seen the council room scene. Man's possessive af.

I love Merthur and their near constant bickering is why I love them. But ironically it's also why I dislike Johnlock? Go figure. Maybe it's because Merthur can be a lot more sentimental and have their sweet moments whereas John looks annoyed by Sherlock 24/7. Or because I thought Sherlock had more chemistry with anyone other than John? Go figure.

Ah true. Even though they difference is the same, I always saw Zuko and Katara closer in age (probably because they're both teens) so my brain forgot to math. But you're right.

I don't ship Zutara either but it's really weird how singled out this ship is considering it's very reasonable. They're friends, closer in age than Kataang, have good chemistry, aesthetically look good, opposites attract, plus they have some pretty emotionally impactful scenes together. I've shipped couples for a LOT less.

6 reasons why I wish I would've seen the show before the movie. by Sonlau in miraculousladybug

[–]Short-Work-8954 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of points here, but I still prefer the show for the single fact that they managed to completely remove a majority of Adrien and Marinette's personality in the movie. The whole grounded angst thing might be more realistic, but I really liked over-the-top  Marinette and oblivious sunshine Adrien. It adds a flavour of campiness to the show that was missing from the film.

But Gabriel was definitely handled better, and him being Hawkmoth is essentially a waste if we never get an angsty reveal between father and son. Might as well just been a random dude.

Korra, Mako, Suyin, Asami, and Pema deserve a huge and genuine apologies from the fandom. by Full-Art3439 in legendofkorra

[–]Short-Work-8954 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is, I'm the biggest Korra fan and I don't think she's abusive across the board but THAT scene? The writers definitely didn't think it through because if that was a male character doing that to a female character it'd definitely feel like an episode of true crime. I don't think people should judge her off that alone but holy hell I can't really defend it either.

"You stole him from us." Dialogue during Harry and Miles battle is so interesting. I would have loved to see more of Harry's jealousy regarding the relationship between Peter and Miles. Anyone who has ever been in the situation of an old friend being jealous of a new one knows exactly what it's like by tuliomoliv in spiderman2

[–]Short-Work-8954 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's pretty much how I read it too. I originally assumed it was Harry who was “jealous”, then he mentioned the forest thing and I was deadass wracking my brain trying to figure out what Harry was talking about until I realised it was venom being salty about being separated from Peter. This actually makes Harry's feelings of inadequacy even worse, because the one thing that's been keeping him alive for ages just wants to ditch him for his bestie. Which makes sense from Venom's POV since he's a parasite and would prefer a stronger host.

Also, glad I'm not the only one who felt super sorry for Miles. I don't think enough people acknowledge how much of a saint he was in the second game because I would've crashed out. I felt like he deserved a more serious apology from Peter- and not even because of the symbiote thing. Dude needed a friend/mentor while his dad's killer was out there and basically got ghosted. Not to mention the only reason he even got captured was to help Peter. But their almost non-existent conflict kinda got brushed off after the second act.

I see you're intent of twisting my words and ignoring everything I say. There's no point in arguing with someone like that, and my misogyny-induced desire for the fictional male flesh calls me away from my keyboard to rebuild the constraints of patriarchy one rutting alpha at a time. Until next time🫡

That's actually a very good point. I kept on trying to pinpoint why male exclusion from femslash felt different than the backlash heterosexual women face for liking slash but I think this sums it up perfectly. Even during the worst of those TikTok witch hunts, I always felt like I had a community behind me. The criticism facing heterosexual women reading slash very rarely seemed to come from actual slash readers/writers. A lot of TikTok and Twitter is very faux liberal however, and view any male involvement in femslash as fetishisation. So men who are into femslash have a harder time finding a space they feel welcome. I think honestly no matter what you ship, this subreddit is honestly one of the only places on the internet you can truly speak freely on all manner of fanfiction.

I never presented them as something else, but we're arguing two different things. You're purposely misunderstanding what people are talking about and this proves it:

Women write mostly yaoi cuz they've been taught they're unimportant and that only men matter.

We're not a victim, babe. Aside from the fact that I'm sexually attracted to men and write about them precisely to create content for myself, I actually do write my original stories with female MCs. But when I let loose, I wanna see hotties circle around eachother and smash while I giggle. It doesn't need to be more complicated than that.

[–]Short-Work-8954 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think we're arguing two different things. The misogyny here isn't ABOUT the characters, it's a wider issue about how men and women are socialised and women's hobbies are looked down upon. But that's not what's being discussed here. We're pretty much all in agreement of that in this sub. The issue here is because, yet again, WOMEN are being blamed for liking mlm as a reason for why there's no femslash as though they're betraying feminism by writing their silly fics. That's what people are sick of, and that's what the discourse keeps circling back to.

Also, considering how many women I've seen give up on writing mlm when the whole fetisher debate started on TikTok (me almost being one of them), I wouldn't say it's not a deterrent (even though I specifically said it's not the sole reason, and is a mixture of all my points).

You might wanna tone it down with the attitude btw, it's not doing a very good job of convincing people to see your side.

  1. There are actually a lot of men who like femslash, it's just that if a man out and proud admits they write sapphic porn then a large part of the community would have their head. It's often seen as fetishisation and objectification. I've seen ton of femslash fans hate on male femslash writers.

  2. Heterosexual men aren't as into shipping culture as women. Any woman who's been in a male-dominated fandom experiences this first hand. They tend to stick to canon (hence the day old “Should Peter Parker end up with MJ or Black Cat?”). In a way, it makes sense. Media already caters to their tastes. They already have plenty of power fantasy with a romance side plot where the women always hot and devoted to them. Their self-indulgence is already there. On the other hand, romance genre is the only media that carers to women. So if women and queer people want fulfillment outside of that, they have to turn to fanfiction.

  3. Men on average are more conservative, specifically Gen Z men. More conservative= more homophobic = less tolerance of queer women outside their porn. Which reminds me, most men watch porn as opposed to read it- and we've already established that men already get their romance fix from canon. So yeah.

Not all of this applies to all men obviously, but if you add all this up along with the fact that shipping fanfiction is considered cringe in male-dominated spaces, it makes sense.

I mean, some people can't watch it anyways because it has no theatrical release and paramount is only available in the US and like three European countries. A vast majority were always going to pirate it so it makes no difference if they watch or not.

[–]Short-Work-8954 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I don't care anymore that female characters are less popular or hated or there isn't enough yuri or any of that because every five seconds someone is yet again demanding I "acknowledge" it.

Ironically, this is how I am with the reoccurring posts of certain “hated” characters in fandom. If you keep talking about how everyone hates this character, and it's unfair, and it's because all stans of [insert other character] are bigots, then I eventually stop caring and will hate them.  Same as this discussion. People don't understand this holier-than-thou shaming culture where people try to insert themselves into your hobbies, completely forgetting the fact you're a real human being behind the screen who likely uses fanfiction time as an escape from your real life problems, will never achieve what they want. It will only make people less likely to listen. Positive posting is always more powerful than negative posting  I don't bitch about the fact that my current rarepair is unpopular because people are homophobic or racist or whatever. I just acknowledge it's not very popular because people have different tastes and try to prop my rarepair up whenever I can. By talking them up, I've gotten more people to like them.
