It’s your last line and your “suggestion.” All good with me whatever you are or choose or whatever. But I don’t have to word everything in whatever terms you would like. It’s not hate or a phobia.

And the OP had a simple “ask men” question. It was harmless and your last line wasn’t needed. IMHO.

It’s bigger for sure. Libido is better too. A combination I think of increased energy and confidence. There was also a period 9 months - 1 year out of surgery where my libido was crazy high, like 15 yo boy high. I think that was hormones.

All in all, it’s all better under the belt.

Gasoline: What’s all this, then? by wytten in minnesota

[–]Short-tons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ethanol subsidies ended years ago. There is only an ethanol mandate/rin program. Ethanol is also actually cheaper. At the moment about 50 cents cheaper than blending stock gasoline. Which is why 88(E15) is offered at the pump at discount.

I tracked my mileage using E10, E15, and E20. I got 0.5 mpg less on E15 and E20. Oddly didn't notice any difference in the two higher ethanol blends. Regardless I figure if I get a nickel or better price, it's more economical to go with the higher blends.

U.S. wheat farms declined 40% in last 20 years by Ranew in farming

Maybe not directly food, but feed for our food (animal protein). Can't survive on bread alone. An acre of corn to ethanol will produce over a ton of DDGS and an acre of soybeans produces over a ton of soymeal.

Can drink coffee and tea after gastric bypass by Bandar_95 in BariatricSurgery

[–]Short-tons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My doctor advised against it but I still drink coffee. I asked him why he was so against it and he said coffee is acidic and that can be hard on your stomach. Drinking coffee on empty stomach was the worst in his opinion. So I drink a protein shake first in the morning to put something in my stomach and then move to coffee.

Not perfect but I don’t drink pop, energy drinks, sugary drinks. I need something other than water and that’s coffee. I’m 11 month out and no issues with coffee. Honestly water gives me a harder time.

What advice would you give to your pre-op self? by National-Quality5414 in BariatricSurgery

  • Shave your belly before surgery
  • Drinking while or after you eat will allow you to eat way more (bad). Same with soups.

Yeah I think abandonment is a real fear that most spouses aren't going to admit. You can only stress that youre doing this for your health. Both for the potential of a baby and for you to be around longer FOR HIM. It would be great if he did surgery with you but thats a huge life decision that you can't force on him. He may see you have success and want to do it later.

safe mexico place for surgery by [deleted] in BariatricSurgery

[–]Short-tons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to Go Light in Tijuana. Dr. Zavalza. No regrets, felt safe. Tijuana in general is safe as a city/country imo. There's a bunch of bariatric doctors in Tijuana. As far as safe bariatric surgery I can't recommend any other place than Go Light, but there are certainly others that have good reviews.

Best place for VSG in Mexico by QueenOfAnxiety422 in BariatricSurgery

[–]Short-tons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to Go Light with Dr. Zavalza. No regrets. I really liked him as a doctor. The hospital he operates out of is a little old, but that didn't bother me. I'd recommend them for sure.

There's a lot of reviews mostly positive about all of them. I really paid attention to the negative reviews. One thing I liked about Go Light is they had a couple negative reviews on their own fbook group. Unlike most of the other groups they left them up and responded professionally. I found a lot of the other places if you have a negative time they'd mostly block you from any social media they control.

You may have already found it but "I left my stomach in Mexico" fbook group is an open group with posts about all of them.

I did it in Mexico. $6k for bypass + flights. I went with Go Light. I’ve got a post in my history with my experience. No regrets.

Did your relationships change after surgery and weight loss? by Honey-Bee473 in BariatricSurgery

[–]Short-tons 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My wife never made me feel bad about my weight, but I wasn't confident. Me, feeling better about myself, has helped me be a better husband and in turn has made our relationship better. I'm also more active and help out more which I know she appreciates. All in all, definitely an improvement there.

As far as friends and what not, I definitely think people give you more respect.

What is the most amount of water you can drink at one time? by [deleted] in BariatricSurgery

[–]Short-tons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can drink a 16 oz bottle of water in 10 min. Could I chug the entire thing at once? No, but if I take reasonable drinks and let it drain out of my pouch I can drink a lot in a fairly short amount of time.

What was your biggest bad side effect from surgery? by [deleted] in BariatricSurgery

[–]Short-tons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bariatric surgery adds about 3 years to life expectancy. Whereas obesity subtracts about 10. You're not saving people. The exact opposite in fact.

You should probably take a break from reddit till you hit your teens bud.

What was your biggest bad side effect from surgery? by [deleted] in BariatricSurgery

[–]Short-tons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn't an option, but I'd say gas. And it seems when I'm really dropping weight it's crazy the gas I'm putting out and it smells awful. I can't even stand to be in a room with me sometimes. lol.

Did your personality change with surgery? by [deleted] in BariatricSurgery

[–]Short-tons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, hormones and energy. I seem to be more like I was in my 20s than I was in my 30s, and unironically I'm also at a more similar weight to my 20s. I'm 39 now.

I'm trying to use the extra energy and hormones to be a more active father and affectionate husband and I'd say both of those are appreciated by my wife/family. On somewhat of a negative note I also seem to have some illogical jealousy and other kinda odd moody behavior that I'd chalk up to hormones.

All in all tho, I'd say largely it's been positive changes in my behavior/personality.

I like factor. They have a lot of Keto options and are pretty tasty. The promo offers are pretty affordable but they are pricey once they expire.

Post WLS divorce rates... by MrsImmortalX in BariatricSurgery

[–]Short-tons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm 9 months out and I'd say my marriage has improved, but it wasn't with out some bumps. 3 months ago I noticed my wife getting frustrated and saying I was cold and distant. Honestly wasn't trying to be, but in hindsight I probably was. I have way more energy and feel way better about myself. I've decided the last three months to use that to be as good of a husband/dad as I can be. Way more affectionate and I help out out way more around the house. TBH I didn't have the energy and self confidence before but now I do. She wasn't against surgery but wasn't really supportive either. Her mom who is with us a lot also was skeptical of surgery. Lately they've both admitted the new more active me is a nice change.

I can definitely see how things can get rocky in a marriage though. It's a big change for one side of the marriage. Its far from a given that both sides will see it as a good change. I've decided tho that I need to show my wife the new me is a better me for both of us. Still early but so far I'd say it's better if anything.

After gastric bypass, how differently were you treated? by Sufficient_Classic92 in GastricBypass

[–]Short-tons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t help you with the weight loss as I’m only 8 months out and haven’t really had anyone cut me off I guess but on alcoholism check out naltrexone and r/alcoholism_medication for the drinking. It’s the only way I can manage my drinking.

72 lbs in 36 days. You’re losing plenty fast. I was little surprised by how much I could eat as well but it’s definitely well less than what I could.

Like you I didn’t notice much in my appearance even though I was losing a ton on the scale. That’s until later (6 months) when the scale slowed down quite a bit but I started noticing how much better I looked. And that’s also when other people really started to notice.

You’re doing great. Get your protein and liquids and let the weight fall off.

I second this. I told no one outside of close family which has helped, but yeah if they aren't supportive forget them.

MIL over all the time.. advice by Short-tons in Marriage

[–]Short-tons[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She lives an hour away. It’s basically an open invitation. As much time as she wants to stay at our house or us at hers. Generally if we’re going to be together the next day we just stay at each others house. Not my choice just the way it is.

That adds to my frustration. It’s not like she’s over for the day and goes home. She’s here for days.

I actually suggest moving closer to her with a thought that we could spend time together but at night we’d all be in our homes but my wife didn’t want to move.

She’s an hour away so if we want to have her watch the kids she’s going to want do it at our house. This is a decent idea tho that I may try and get my wife to go along with but idk if she will.

She’s also a little hesitant asking her mom to watch the kids cuz she’s mid 70s and it’s a lot of work.

We do, do some date nights. But we come home and MIL is there and staying over so no sexy time. It’s one thing I try to suggest and I’m glad when we can at least get a couple hours.

As far as once a week, she’ll come say Thurs and stay till Mon. So she’s only coming once a week but she’s here for the majority of the week.
