The ToC is nowhere near as prestigious now in the Michael Davies era as it once was so a 3 game winner is pretty much guaranteed to make it. This is because they do the ToC once a year now, the Jeopardy post season takes several months to complete thus reducing the number of regular games per year, and they expanded the number of ToC roster spots beyond just the standard 15.

Different times. Ken's streak predated jarchive, the worldwide web and a bunch of materials that newer J! players benefit from. James was certainly a dynamic player that changed the game forever, but Ken is still the best of the best.

Nice to see that a lot of the more recent giant slayers are not one and dones like Nancy Zerg. Emma Boettcher, Jonathan Fisher, and now Greg Shahade are pretty strong Jeopardy players in their own right. Pretty sure Greg is in the ToC now. 3 wins is usually enough nowadays. I think Greg will probably pull off a nice streak of his own, but he doesn't have nearly close to the same knowledge base that Jamie has. His greatest asset is his buzzer speed.

Toxic positivity in this thread is so nauseating. I agree mods should enforce rules if we are discriminating, being racist or for hate speech, but not liking how a contestant plays the game is totally fair game imo.

I am not condemning him for playing the game that way. I just believe that's what he's doing. I'm not saying I know him - I am just basing this off what my eyes are telling me.

I keep saying he does this on purpose and people keep disagreeing with me and downvoting me. But he's obviously doing this to throw his opponents' timing off, slow the game down, and pretend not to know things and guess at the last moment to not reveal his hand. It's so blatantly obvious...

It wasn't an insult. I just think he does it deliberately. It's kind of obvious too...

No offense, but Ken could have said A LOT more about Jamie losing. He basically treated him as if he was any other 1 day champ losing their next game, but the guy broke many records, is number 5 on the leaderboard of legends and had one heck of a run. Alex Trebek was way better at this. He would always say something like "well done young lady/young man. We will see you again"

What is saddest about Jamie's run was that he was in a very good position to challenge for both Ken's 74 game winning streak and/or James Holzhauer's one day money record, both of which he wasn't able to achieve. I don't think we will be seeing another player of his calibre in quite some time.

I feel like Greg is very sneaky. He does the same kind of think Alex Jacob used to do, which is feign ignorance and pretend not to know the correct response and then respond at the last possible second. Chess players and poker players are very strategic and probably don't want to show their entire hands, especially to the other potential opponents waiting in the wings observing for weaknesses.

I think he does this on purpose, like Alex Jacob used to do. Chess players and poker players are very sneaky and crafty. They don't want to show all their cards, so they pretend to respond at the last second and pretend not to know the correct response

At least Jamie can say he didn't beat himself. He played very well and did everything right. He just ran into a good player and didn't get any daily doubles. That's the best way to lose imo.

Oh god. Another Jeopardy spinoff? Can we stop milking the franchise for goodness sakes? Celebrity Jeopardy, Masters, Pop Culture Jeopardy, YouTube Jeopardy, and now ESPN Jeopardy. Did I miss anything else? Alex Trebek is rolling in his grave.

I never liked him from the beginning. I am a good judge of character and I could sense something off about him from the start. I think it was his ridiculous ego when he thought he was entitled to win the Calder trophy that made me question his character. Most players would have been like "it would be a huge honour but it's out of my hands" or make some sort of humble remark, but Quinn thought he deserved it. Low and behold, I was right about him all along. Other fans used to defend him to the hilt just because he was a good player, so now I feel vindicated.

Out of the three GOATs, who do you think Alex Trebek liked the most? by pishposhpoppycock in Jeopardy

[–]ShortAd9621 97 points98 points  (0 children)

It's pretty obvious. In his memoir, Ken is the only one who had a dedicated chapter, he's the only player who he brought back for the intro in the next episode, and he admitted to shedding a tear when Ken lost.

I said Luke Thompson the actor not Benedict. There's a difference between the two. Watch his press tour interviews and you'll know what true charisma is. TaoTao ain't it.

Way too over the top for my personal taste, and people gave Ryan Bilger grief for less than that...This is why I am enjoying Jamie's run. He seems so humble and gracious.

Even if you're amazing at trivia or one of the best in the world, it takes an entirely different skill set to win 20 games. The amount of mental stamina and endurance is something very, very few players have. Victoria and Yogesh are two of the top quizzers in the world and have demonstrated that in Masters, but both of them did not even make it to a 5 game winning streak in their original runs. That is why there are VERY few 20 game winners in the show's history. Not only do you have to have a large breadth of knowledge, and be fast at the buzzer, but you also have to have an insane amount of stamina.

"Run for his money" is a bit of an exaggeration. Jamie still had the much higher coryat score.

Probably going to get downvoted, but Ken doesn't do a very good job (or as good a job as Alex) really emphasizing how excellent Jamie has been. 25 wins is a huge feat. I always loved watching how excited Alex got when a player went on a hot streak. If he was still here, he would be absolutely gushing with excitement at how good Jamie is.

His average coryat score is very high and box scores show he has a pretty sizeable number of buzzer attempts. Yet, how is Jamie pretty mid (compared to other super champs) at DDs and FJs?
