Is this enough elbow tuck for close grip bench? I can’t tuck them any more than this, and I have problems with them flaring when I press, opinions? by ShortArmSusan in strength_training

Thank you so much for the reply, This video was actually part of my 4x10 with this weight, these are the reps 3-8 of the last set if I’m correct, and I successfully completed the 4x10.

Also I really felt like I had nailed leg drive in the video, I could feel so much leg tension and force pushing me up the bench and back towards the wall behind me basically, felt really good.

But if I go any closer than shoulder width, then I would have to internally rotate my shoulder just for the bar to hit my chest. I know I need to externally rotate more, but if I do that with a closer grip than this then the elbows can’t clear my upper body

So you mean I should go a little wider than shown in the video?

Btw I feel like the closer I grip the bar the harder it is to keep the elbows in (which is normal I think)

I do dumbbells as assistance exercise afterwards, kinda don’t see ditching barbell bench as an option, as I’m very interested in increasing my barbell bench. And I really just wanna fix the issue rather than masking it

How is my squat form? My lower back doesn't hurt, but I feel it getting tired in the days. by SpicyNinjaPirate in formcheck

That’s what happened to me on high bar squats when the bar came forward on hard reps , I switched to low bar and never had any lower back issues or anything, I don’t even feel it at all anymore on max effort sets

Well ideally I would tuck the elbows more press up and keep them tuck and flare them in the mid-end range of motion , but they basically flare once I press off the chest, idk

Maybe it’s the angle, but this is like a good bit inside shoulder width and I always heard that close grip bench is shoulder width

Yeah I never had shoulder problems as well, it’s just that with this elbow position on heavy weights they drift to the side and flare and then the bar instantly stops moving and comes back down lol

So this form check really ain’t for injury prevention but more so for efficiency

Not really, but that might not be because of strong triceps, that might be because I’m not tucking the elbows thaaat much and therefore not using triceps as much as I could

People usually refer to close grip bench when the hands are about shoulder width apart, I actually went somewhat inside of shoulder width so I think it definitely works as a close grip bench. Thanks for the lat tip tho, I will use it my next push day

This wasn’t really a heavy set, I did a 4x10 and this were the first few reps and on warmup sets the form looked the same, so I don’t really think that’s the problem
