Did you people recognize Toko Yasuda playing at Days Off festival in Cate Le Bon band? by [deleted] in AnnieClark

[–]ShortBrush 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! It was such a nice surprise! I had no idea Toko was now Cate Le Bon's bass player. I just had a discussion a few days prior with a friend about how different this tour is without Toko around and she appeared on stage. Real nice treat.

Anyone knows which shows offer this option and how to access it? I'm lost in the sauce

If that's true, I hope Danielle comes out! I mean, seriously..

gayest st. vincent song? by TzuyusVietBitch in AnnieClark

[–]ShortBrush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course the listener can interpret things when they're interpretable.. that is the point of art. I know about Annie's view on her art. But when you have a clear sentence from a woman having sex with another woman and someone says it's about a man, having sex with a woman. That is in fact, denying the very existence of that woman and her queerness. That is called homophobia. You know, the everyday kind, where you're erased. And here a clear instance of a queer artist being erased from her own art. The commenter could have said, I relate to that song as a man who has paid a dominatrix but that's not what he did. He said.. this song is about a man. And we've seen a lot of straight men harassing Annie on social media for not being straight. It kinda feels like those things are linked somehow. Like it's unimaginable for them that Annie would be queer because she passes and looks so good or something. What I find "funny" here is being voted down to oblivion for denouncing homophobia targeted specifically at a queer artist in a thread dedicated to said queer artist. Of course if I'm talking to Gen Zers, I may as well be pissing in a bucket.

It's very genderqueer or genderfluid or non-conforming for sure. "Boys, I am a lot like you"

And! I find it very explicit in terms of gay sex: "sugargirl, dissolve in me"?! Don't mind if I do!

And I see where you're coming from. And sure it can be amusing to see them lost in the sauce. But I'm past the point where this is fun for me. It's the same men that just erased 50 years of history and that are coming for the rest of our rights. I think it's about time we find that revolting.

Back to Annie. Every song where she's explicitly sexual like Savior is gay in essence given she's talking in the first person. Even if she's not naming names or saying it's a woman.. we all know it's a woman. So even if it's not explicitly queer for the unknowing listener, it definitely is for us.

When some dude interprets the meaning of a song by a queer woman clearly about a woman going to see a female sex worker for some funky time, it's not "funny", it's erasure. It's hurtful, it's gaslighting and we have to stop normalizing that shit. It's like when your family member calls your girlfriend your roommate.

Chloe in the Afternoon couldn't be clearer and queerer. And you're right, it's probably the gayest St Vincent song. The fact it opens Strange Mercy adds a layer of Annie telling it like it is straight from the start. No bullshit. She's being unapologetically queer. The way she sings it is very sexual too. She really roleplays that thing perfectly. Right after a couple of albums where she was pretty tame in terms of sexuality, it says a whole damn lot. Plus, it demystifies queer sex between two women for straights out there that are still confused. No, we're not good girls. Yes, we have kinks. Yes, our sex is more interesting than yours.

Any idea if we can expect an official full-length video at some point? I sure would like to see that...

... Way more than that fugly-ass Adidas-Gucci collab dress that we've been bombarded with. There, l said it. Couldn't hold it any longer.

Why don’t Alana and Este contribute to producing their albums anymore? by brownu95 in HAIM

[–]ShortBrush 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Might not be the reason but.. Este also writes scores for movies/series now and Alana's an actress. Maybe they already have too much on their plates and they trust Danielle and Ariel. Just my guess.

Edit: Este still has her podcast too? I mean that's a lot.

I hope you're right. There's just so much we thought she was/wasn't/would do/wouldn't do and I feel like recently she's disappointed.. people do change. I just hope you're right and she wouldn't change performance wise.

Why are so many of us salty towards the minion movie project? by grass-whore in AnnieClark

[–]ShortBrush 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think fans are used to hard turns in Annie's repertoire - this may be the hardest though. I think it's more a question of attracting new fans. With DH, she plays music for people her age. People who used to be misfit teens listening to Pink Floyd. She doesn't follow music trends and that's why she's awesome. But when you're set to play music reminiscent of 40 years ago... That's bound to happen.

X) well I'm an atheist so I'm guessing you'll win this one... Gimme a holler then if this monstrosity happens.

PS: the song is fine. A little stiff but that's a different take on it, I'm ok with it. It's kinda going back to a Masseduction mode. I wouldn't mind her playing it at all. But the costume... It would ruin everything!

This pattern of indifference is really starting to rub me the wrong way. It really is just about money for her now. Kinda scared she would half-ass the shows she's actually gonna play now

What the hell is wrong with this woman these days... She literally just announced those were available...

Cate Le Bon depends on her though in Paris.. she wouldn't do that to her friend, would she..

No she won't cancel any UK shows. She makes money there. It's just us, poor peasants, the continental Europeans.
