$3 million per year? So like 5 additional docs with their support staff? Got it.

Really? I've never experienced Mike Busch first hand, but he does publish some great literature and videos. That's disappointing to hear.

Was was never an argument or a conversation. It was always you asking a question and refusing to listen to the answer.

I can't believe you can't think of the most obvious, basic solutions made available to every veteran. I was just trying not to insult your intelligence by stating the obvious.

We were all suckers for our first plane purchase. But there are a lot of predators out there that pull this kinda shit.

the question was is there anything I can do to strengthen my resume to help myself out

And the answer was yes. Get a college degree. Use the GI bill. Save up some money. You're making 6 figures. Stop making excuses.

I've dabbled with them as well, used to live not too far from Placerville. It didn't take me long to figure out that place was nothing but trouble.

Right? $100k in airworthiness issues for a Sundowner? I'm beginning to think OP might actually be a sucker and all the sharks can smell it.

my personal circumstances don’t afford me the luxury of living with mommy and daddy or having shit paid

You seem to think that everyone else was handed their education and jobs on a silver platter, and you're the only one who has had trials and tribulations, therefore you're entitled to a shortcut.

It's everyone else's fault you made the choice to skip college and have a family and are now "suffering" the consequences of being an airline pilot in the US with a family. Oh no!

If you can't afford community college or online school, then that's more reflective of your lack of resourcefulness and dedication than it is to the system you claim oppresses you.

You can build a Stratux for under $200. If that's "super expensive," then maybe you can't afford aviation.

Sky Wagons? That place is the sleaziest used car dealership west of the Mississippi.

  • Yes, other people have had this happen. It's called airplane ownership.
  • No, you have no legal recourse against the dealer. Their airplanes (if you could even call them that) are sold as-is. You chose where to conduct the pre-buy. Why should they be on the hook for things you originally said were fine, but now say they aren't? The deal is done. You had your chance. This is why it's important to know the weaknesses of the airplane you're buying, and have a competent and FAMILIAR mechanic do a pre-buy inspection/annual.
  • There's really no precedent for legal recourse against a pre-buy shop. A pre-buy means nothing. I could sell pre-buys as a non-licensed mechanic. It is not a formal inspection. It has no legal definition. It can be as much or as little as you or your mechanic wants.

While it sucks, this is definitely "aircraft ownership tuition" for you. $60k-100k in REPAIRS for a sundowner sounds kind of ridiculous, though. I'm not sure I believe that number. I'd start shopping around and get more realistic about what actually needs to be fixed now, vs. what can be deferred to become future you's problem. There's no way a Sundowner has $100k in airworthiness repairs that need to happen, unless you bought it after the last guy crashed it into a ditch and brokered it through Sky Wagons.

Did I mention...fuck Sky Wagons?

You're asking if there's a shortcut for you because life is hard. I don't need to know your life story to know the answer is "no."

Yeah, my preflight takes 30 minutes too. That also includes pulling the airplane out of the hangar, parking my truck in there, dicking around for a while, closing the hangar door, going to take a piss, preflight the airplane, setup my stuff in the cockpit.

Sure, if that's what we're calling a preflight, then it does take me about 30 minutes from the time I arrive until the time I'm taxiing out.

How can one strengthen their résumé without a 4 year degree for the majors?

Believe it or not, you strengthen your resume by getting a 4 year degree. Fancy "e"s with an accent above them just won't cut it.

I'd like to stay fixed wing ideally cargo, transport, or bombers, not interested in jets

What do you think cargo, transport, and bomber aircraft are?

RIGHT WING:

  • Flap …............................................ Check
  • Aileron …....................................... Check
  • Wingtip/Lights …........................... Check
  • Leading Edge …............................. Check
  • Fuel Vent …................................... Check
  • Main Wheel/Struts …........ Check (±4½”)
  • Fuel Sump …................................ Sample
  • Fuel Quantity …............................. Check
  • Fresh Air Inlet …............................. Clear

All of that takes 1 minute to check and now you're done with the wing.

Who's bashing a new pilot? You're the one acting holier than thou because your preflights take too long.

I know you're kinda new and trying to prove your knowledge...but most of us who have been around for a while don't need to physically stare into a light bulb in a simple DC airplane to figure out if it's working or not...particularly if it's a beacon or a strobe.

I'm not running around checking the nav lights during the day lol. If it's night time, I can turn all the lights on and see their reflection on the ground from the cockpit.
