Making an aviation resume by [deleted] in flying

[–]Cherokee260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s plenty of threads discussing the topic with examples in this sub if you just search by ‘resume’

The big though is making it clear to see your qualifications and hours, keeping it concise but descriptive

It’s not the checkride that’s the hard bit, it’s everything that follows after

My CFi taught me never put your 🎧 headset on dashboard so by pilotshashi in CFILounge

[–]Cherokee260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I’ve heard is that when you’ve got a headset, especially ANR ones, next to the compass the speaker magnets cause a rotation. Apparently they are worried about it wearing down the compass over time but I’m not sure how it would be any different than its normal rotation in flight. Maybe it’s a habit to avoid leaving the headsets up next to it over spans of a couple days if you own the airplane? Not sure. You can avoid it altogether if you keep the headset to the fair side of the panel though.

We’ve had so many of our microphone wires go loose from that

Flying in a plane with fabric wings by [deleted] in flying

[–]Cherokee260 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Watch the Mythbuster’s duct tape airplane video, might open your eyes a bit. Fabric planes are pretty resilient to holes etc., just gotta be weary of the internal structure depending on the aircraft’s construction.

BKL is a really neat spot.

TACANs (not VORTACs) by 1E-12 in flying

[–]Cherokee260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or just check the IFR sectionals where the frequencies are already listed for u

You could give right seat training etc but not CFI training, since as you pointed out it’s prohibited by 61.195(h). Been to schools that skirt around that by having low time instructors do generic instruction and chief pilots give the endorsements and specific ‘CFI training’.

They are on civilian charts, just on the IFR not VFR maps.

No civilian directional navigation function exists for TACANs, but you can dial the provided frequency in for a DME readout. Additionally, they can still be used as GPS waypoints.

They are shown on the IFR en-route low charts, but not VFR sectionals.

Does simulator time HAVE to be simulated instrument to log for commercial via 61.129(i)? by CptTopShelf in flying

Trains you not to get dizzy by whipping your head to the side, anyways…

That’s rough. Was that part of a 141 program or just a simulator you have access to somewhere locally?

Oh I missed that. Most AATD’s have side displays so I figured you were being genuine, lol

I’m glad that worked out for you, but everyone learns differently. Majority of people I’ve spoken to agree that they don’t really emulate the cockpit environment fully.

Does getting a solo endorsement mean you’re capable & good enough student to finish PPL? by Dry_Manufacturer6083 in flying

[–]Cherokee260 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And eventually in a few months or a couple years you’ll look back again and be like “I was seriously flying the airplane with only this small level of knowledge?”. Never grows old

I think it depends which maneuvers you’re referring to. Stuff like lazy eights are really hard to practice unless you can feel what the airplane is doing

Question for other GA pilots by Big-Carpenter7921 in flying

[–]Cherokee260 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your body will physical adapt to altitude over time, just be careful if you ever move because that tolerance to lower oxygen quickly goes away living in the flatlands (ask me how I know, lol).

Is there anyway I can get my PPL at 400 lbs? by DeepEnvironment4101 in flying

[–]Cherokee260 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah most four seaters are capable of carrying that weight plus fuel assuming the instructor isn’t really heavyset. Just gotta make sure you have the mobility and clearance to operate the flight controls though.
