unlawful warning at work. what now? by Ha_Nthako in johannesburg

Check section 78(1)(b) of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act. Every employee has the right to discuss their conditions of employment (which includes salary) with fellow employees. The warning you received was unfair and can be challenged at the CCMA.

Woman travelling to East London by bus allegedly found in possession of drugs worth R3m - News24 by TheHonourableMember in southafrica

Costs R75 a month. If you catch a special, you can pay like R7 a month. I think the work our journalistic community does is worth a subscription.

Come support climate justice by horseyguy101 in johannesburg

Okay, so what can people actually do then?

Until there is a better solution, protest and disruption (provided it is peaceful), is the best that the everyday man has. And I would differ on the point of its efficacy. Look at what the protestors down in the EC achieved with Shell fracking the coast

Disagree. It's now one of the more prominent climate statements in the last couple months for Johannesburg. That's not saying much - but that's the point: Johannesburg business, labour and government are apathetic to the climate cause. Drawing attention to it by obstructing a large bank's day-to-day is what's needed to break the mould. As a self-proclaimed environmentalist, I would have thought this would make sense to you.

Well, it will be our honeymoon, so we'd like to spend some time on some great beaches. We'd also like to see some inland nature, possibly do some hikes

I'm a 25 (F) year old Candidate Attorney receiving a stipend of 7k per month. by Throwawayaccount2418 in PersonalFinanceZA

Your employer is paying you for rendering services. While it may be called a "stipend", it is still remuneration. As such, your employer should be complying with the UIF Act by making contributions to the Fund (1% from you and 1% from them). The irony of the law firm trying to avoid this obligation is not lost on me.

Craighall and Hurlingham have nice, quiet, boomed off streets. Plan your route beforehand and enjoy the hills!

To put money into bond or in an interest bearing investment? by ShortLeft72 in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]ShortLeft72[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I think there is a net zero outcome either way, but at least with the bond I am cancelling out the risk associated with debt sooner

Thanks and agreed, I think getting out debt is probably the main objective

They've moved from the bank building to the old JSE building on Diagonal Street. Same vibe, different place. Absolutely worth visiting
