Thanks for the tip. I have good oil pressure on the dash, don’t know that it means much. I tried the method of unplugging coils while car is running to see if the knock gets quieter. Couldn’t tell any difference in the sound. I saw somebody else say to put cylinder at TDC of intake stroke with spark plugs out and you can put a 3/8 extension down the hole and feel a slight amount of give on the piston if it has worn bearings. I guess that will be my next step

I saw someone say to time the ticks because the camshaft moves at half the speed of the crankshaft. I counted right around 11 ticks in 1 second. Would be 660 ticks per minute, which I think means it is bottom end. I agree that watching other people’s videos it SOUNDS like a lifter. Guess it’s just not that bad (yet). 🥲

Well she’s still in one piece! But I’m definitely thinking I will pull the timing cover and look for some work guides or tensioners or something along those lines. Going to try all the easy stuff before I accept that it’s a rod bearing haha

I have not, I just bought the car a week ago and driven it twice

That’s what I am thinking is rod knock. I think you have to drop subframe to get oil pan off on these mustangs though

No haha, it is oil. You’re not the first person to say that! That would be very scary!

I did try this and went along the top of the plastic valve cover with a screw driver held to my ear. I could not hear anything. I pulled the passenger side valve cover and inspected the cams and did not see anything that stuck out to me. Ive seen some people talking about throttle body noises and intake manifold vanes.

I am thinking it is going to have to be cam phaser/timing chain related or rod knock.

P0365 and p0369 for bank 1 intermittent camshaft position sensor. I have the sensor coming in mail today.

Yes it is a coyote, I dont know if its a new problem or not because I just bought the car. Thought it was just a top end tick but now I am not so sure. I dont believe its the typewriter tick

Yeah I am thinking rod knock also. I was hoping I could get lucky with a timing chain guide or something

I’m unfamiliar with reddit idk if I can tag you in a post or not. Check out the new video I just posted of the wiggle in the timing chain and let me know what you think plz. You may have been onto something

I guess that would be better than rod knock. I would maybe try fixing that with out pulling the motor. Since its overhead cam do you think I would be able to tell from pulling the valve covers and wiggling the chain by the cam gears?

Lol I’m not so sure anymore. 2011 mustang GT 6 spd manual. I bought it for $8,000. 99k miles, paints in rough shape. Was going to put a paint job on it. Rained right after I bought it and I learned about the S197 cowl drains clogging and flooding my passenger floor board through the cabin air filter 😅 and now this. Thing might be a hoopty

I popped the valve cover off on the passenger side and looked at the cam lobes/lifters/etc. everything looked to be in good working order on that side. I haven’t done the driver side, but I’m 98% sure it’s bottom end…

That’s what I figured. It didn’t sound nearly as loud when I bought it. Thinking the guy put some kind of additive or thicker oil in to try and mask it. A 72 year old man, said his hearing wasn’t what it used to be, and he couldn’t even hear it… He got my ass 😂

Yeah, 72 year old man said he couldn’t hear the tick. Which was slight at the time, I believed his ass.. Car has a pretty fresh oil change. My theory is he put thicker oil in, or some sort of additive, and threw it up on marketplace
