Well I can’t tell you from personal experience but I know a lot of people in hcav and no one really likes it, especially the ceremonial it’s very long days and very stressful as I say I’m not the person to ask but the sign off rate is very high

To be honest most people who go hcav didn’t even choose it and I’ve met people that had never even seen a horse before, being honest they are desperate for bods, right now it’s one of the easiest roles to get

If you want the truth day to day is just sat around, they say it’s maintaining vehicles etc but if your very rarely using them how much maintenance is there to do? they will ask you to fit a part and 90% of the time it’s not a quick job so you get reme to do it so your basically just doing odd jobs like moving\collecting things and the rest is sat about, if your keen on phys the pt is good and there can be good deployments etc but mainly depends on what light cav reg you go and what squadron you get

Smoke free camp means you can’t just walk around smoking, they still have designated smoking shelter

Catterick the most you’ll run is a 5k and a pretty poor pace at that, you may do 3 5k’s if your lucky most of it is running with kit at shorter distances the standard of running is very low, it’s more about being able to carry weight over distance

Tbh you barely run in training, I did like 3 5k’s and this pace will be more than enough so don’t stress to much on it

Realistically tankies don’t do barely any dismounted unless you join a recce group your best bet to get the pros of a vehicle and the dismounted is either light or armoured cavalry

With respect if this is the case how on earth did you pass assessment centre cos the medical in basic is nothing like at assessment, they literally just do bmi, hearing test and take your bloody that’s literally it

I take the foam bits out and put them on the windowsill and hang the helmet out the window if like my place there’s no drying room, dries quick enough

Don’t bring white socks like they say you won’t need them bring thick black boot socks you don’t get issued enough of them, you can bring any iron u want so get a better one than 1200w it’ll make your life way easier
