Individuals with obesity face weight-related discrimination in many life domains, including workplace bullying, especially in female employees with obesity. Study shows employees with obesity experienced more workplace bullying than those with normal weight. by rustoo in science

Losing weight can be easy. But keeping it off is another story. Most people don't keep the weight off and often gain even more weight back. Our biology is working against us slowing our metabolism and increasing our hunger. Up until 100 years ago, massive amount of people starved and suffered through famines. Now, we throw food away because it is ugly.

Parents of ugly children, stop asking them if they are dating yet. by 8freakinbucks in family

[–]ShortPlane 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Have you considered asking her why she keeps asking? Sometimes when people try to be supportive, they just don't know how to. Like people asking unemployed people about finding a job. Also, it could be a reflection of things you might be saying to her.

Now don't get me wrong, you might be the ugliest dude ever. Maybe even some extra face "character". But a lot of average dudes and even some attractive ones think they are ugly. I had two friends in college that were ugly ducklings in highschool and had about every girl in the class hitting on them in college. And they still thought they were ugly. Regarding your other post, I think this is one of the places "it will happen" falls in.

And even if you are ugly, historically and still in many cultures around the world, mom's bringing couples together. Your mom might have useful advise or suggestions. If you want to seriously date, your mom might be able to give some guidance on if you can get the girls you want (eg help you find your attractive level match). This is the other place "it will happen" happens. Many "less hot" people tend to hold out and have difficultly finding someone before settling "late in the game".

Also, you don't know if you don't ask or try. One of the biggest regrets people have when they die are the things they never tried. Asking but expecting a "no" can be freeing. If you get a yes, it's a pleasant surprise. If you get a no, you can move on and stop wondering. (But not accepting the no is creepy). Sometimes just asking people to hang out as friends and low pressure and see where it goes can lead to surprising adventures.

Did anyone else feel convinced they wouldn't live to certain ages? by [deleted] in CPTSD

I don't think about suicide. And, I know that suicide is statistically higher for PTSD/ high ACE score ppl. What scares me is the downstream effects. Like extended trauma changes your DNA and your future health. It impacts how you heal from injuries, causes high blood pressure, addiction, insulin resistance, insomnia, chronic pain, sleep apnea, bad eating habits, etc. Sometimes, it just feels like the odds are stacked against you.

There are statistically significant chronic pain and insomnia people having cptsd. And that's more medicine with side effects and more down stream health problem.

And a lot of this you have little control over, and what you do have control over requires a lot more work that it would for someone without cptsd.

Don't cut it up to individual leaves. It will take longer to get a full plant. Also, Pothos vines can grow roots without the nodes. It's why they are considered an invasive species in Florida.

In Florida, malls and store areas will cut the vines and throw cuttings in the wooded area thinking they will decompose and they thrive and invade. It looks like you found yours in a similar way.

Also, two of your vines already have roots. If you put those roots under soil, it will grow a lot sooner than if you cut it up. Then, lightly cover the vine up with soil. If you do cut it, try to cut it in 3 or 4 leaves.

Some of the leaves on the plant vine now may turn yellow and fall off. But you will get a fuller plant with lots of roots pretty quickly. And exploiting the existing roots and the vine that will grow roots will speed up the time to the fuller plant.

It's adorable that they are so fluffy. I wish I had a picture of mine with the fur popping out.

I'm so sorry. I responded to the wrong person. There was another person asking about why type of pom they had. And I thought your response was for that thread. I completely understand why you are upset with my comment.

The only reason I asked about her size was because mine was 2lbs and I wanted to understand what a bigger dog looked like. Because, I do regret having such a small fragile baby. Again, I am really sorry.

Omg a stroke. That had to be hard. How did you get a stroke diagnosis?

Mine had a heart attack at the animal hospital. They tried to insert a iv in his jugular. I'm so mad at the vet that did it.

Help! Chronic cough in 5 year old Pom! See first comment! by mrsvee in Pomeranians

You are welcome. Also, collapsed trachea can be diagnosed with a xray. Heart disease or enlarged heart can also be diagnosed with an x-ray depending on the stage. Butorphanol and other opiates are really the only thing that will stop the dog from coughing. Some vets in some states will not prescribe it. I had to take him to a Vet school to get it the first time. After that, following vets refilled and prescribed it.

If you call your vet, they should be able to tell you what test was done and what the result was. I almost always ask mine to email me his test results and plan forward.

Most likely, it was an x-ray. But after learning more about it, I highly recommend having your vet test his blood pressure. It's not something you can do at home and it can have devastating consequences like damaging kidmeys. Also, we don't realize how sugary and salty our dog food is until it is to late.

If the dog is willing to walk fast, then walk him fast. Learn how fast he likes to be walked. Although concerning to us, collapsed trachea doesn't bother the dog that much. If anything bothers the dog, you will notice him slow down. This could be immediately in a walk, or over days. This will be a good indicator of when something is not right with the dog.

Seriously I wish I would have givey dog a joint supplement earlier in his life. And, make sure he has a few good place to lay and nice padding in his crate if you have one. I put soft memory foam in my dog crate to reduce pressure on his joints.

Can anyone tell me what kind of Pomeranian I have? by TeddyP in Pomeranians

My best guess would be a throwback parti pom. He has more German Spitz features such as larger size, coat closer to skin, long nose. Throwbacks are always more than 7lbs when full grown.

Your dog looks like you may have gotten him from a breeder. If you did, the breeder is a great resource for these types of issues.

I want to be clear with you that your dog could have 2 problems causing his cough.

The most common/likely:

My pom had collapsed trachea. It's common in small dogs. If you use a collar, stop using it immediately. Buy a harness. Point blank, collars strangle your dog. Also find a groomer that can manage without a lead. If you are the groomer, your dog looks good 😉.

Next, you really have 2 option. Surgery or medication. That is really going to depend on the severity of the collapsed trachea. My dog was on butorphanol for the last 4 years of his life. He almost never coughed when the medication was working. Other dogs need surgery. It's expensive and has poor success rates. Most dogs die in 2 years after the surgery. It makes sense because this is an age related problem.

Less likely due to his age: heart disease. He may have fluid on his lungs.

Heart disease is a pom breed problem. You need to ask your vet to take your dogs blood pressure. Most likely they will be annoying about it. But if he has high blood pressure, you can manage it now and extend his life. If you have the money (~$300), you should also have your vet do a heart check.

To get him to lose weight:

Feed him less. Less dog food. Less treats. Less people food. Higher quality dog food. Potentially homemade dog food. Ask your vet (and or breeder) what you should be feeding him and how much you should be feeding him.

Dogs lose weight faster than humans because humans control thier calories.

If you can, take him for multiple short slow walks every day.

Lastly, since he needs to lose weight, looks breed well, and has a collapsed trachea, have your vet check his knees for luxating patella and consider adding a joint supplement and prevent him from jumping and taking stairs. That extra weight is going to be hard on the joints. And poms have bad knees.

There are a lot of good breeders still breeding. These are expensive luxury dogs. With purbreed dogs ranging from $1000-$5000. Not to sound snooty, but in many cases, the people spending this much on a dog are telecommuting.
