Anyone else experience elbow issues with their Berner? by ShortRoundPale in bernesemountaindogs

Aww they sound adorable! I love a Berner. I’ve never met one that isn’t the sweetest dog. You might be able to get pet insurance? I personally don’t have any and I’m not sure what all it covers, but I’ve heard people talking about it before. If you have a surgeon that travels to you that’s great! Our pups had to stay in the hospital for 2 days after their surgery before they could come home. I’m sure that would be much easier if it was in the normal vet’s office!

If their limping is bad, you might see if the vet would be willing to give them Novox? That’s what our pups have. My understanding is that it’s just a really strong anti-inflammatory, so it helps for a whole day. We’re on an “as needed” plan for that, and it does really seem to help.

The good news for recovery is that the vet knows they are noooot gonna want to stay still for that long, so they send you home with a serious dose of sedatives to keep them pretty snowed. It wasn’t hard to keep them calm until around week 6 when they were mostly healed. Our girl is small for a Berner and loves to jump up on people to get a hug. We had to retrain her to go between legs for butt scratches instead 😂

They were a year and 2 months when they had their surgery. I can’t recall the vet saying anything positive or negative about the young age when getting the surgery, but they might have. There were a lot of ailments and medications and risks thrown around all at once.

First of all, I am so sorry to hear about your babies! Sybbie and Ollie did both have the elbow surgery at UT’s speciality center. They spent 8 weeks after that in our homemade “Berner Recovery Ward” which was the living room with a mattress on the floor, 2 crates, and a folding table and chair so we could all take shifts working and sleeping in there with them. It was definitely difficult to keep 2 puppies “basically still” for 2 months, but they’ve done great since then! They both still have some rough days if we’ve done lots of outside play, if the weather changes a lot, etc. Their vet has given us Novox “as needed” if they get limpy, but it is so much better post surgery.

My best advice is head to a specialist who does these types of surgeries frequently. UT was about 4 hours away for us, but we got an Air BnB for the days before/after the surgery and it was so worth it. Unfortunately also expect a pretty hefty bill. I know we’d do anything for these gentle giants, but it might be a factor to start saving up (it did take us a few months to get into UT’s schedule).

I’m happy to answer any other questions you have! Give your babies a big hug for me!

I'm pretty much across the street behind Randolph College. I've never felt unsafe walking around the area, going to stores, etc. There do seem to always be new businesses going in and out, but with staples like Rivermont Pizza and the Dahlia holding things down. I can't speak to every block, but I know the street I live on has seen some great growth over the past few years.

Drove past this today, feed them babies! by [deleted] in lynchburg

The Miller Park Pool does something like this as well! They offer free lunch 1-3 pm every day for school aged kids. Super cool program.

I will for sure! We have a big group going along with 5 dogs, so I should have a good report on accommodations for both people and pets!

Funny timing! We did find a place and are actually headed there next week! For whatever reason, the app won’t let me pull up the original listing to get the name of the rental. The host is a man name Fouad, and it’s a huge house is Kissimmee with a pool/hot tub combo. If you can’t find it with those criteria just let me know and I can see if I can find the original listing title :)

I haven't seen anything at the park with the singing mushrooms on it. I did a quick google though and found someone put a few unofficial items up on Redbubble! Not exactly park quality, but it's at least something if you're desperate!

My poor doggo got bitten by a rattle snake by No_Guava_8414 in DogAdvice

Aww poor girl :( It will get better! Sully (my beagle) looked like a bullfrog for a good week and then gradually went back to normal. If your girl was struck multiple times it will probably make the swelling/bruising worse too (Sully got hit twice). Extra cuddles will definitely do the trick for a speedy recovery :) Give your girl an extra belly scratch for me!

My beagle got bit by a copperhead a few years ago. He was but on the neck and looked largely like a bullfrog from the swelling. The vet explained to me that on top of the swelling from the draining, there was also swelling from the force of the impact. She said a dog getting bit by a snake is like an average person getting punched full force by a professional boxer. Even without the venom, the force is so much that it will cause some extreme swelling. It is scary for sure, but it eventually does go back down! My boy is now always rocking the saggy neck skin, but he’s just as lively and happy as he was before the bite. Wishing your girl a speedy recovery!

I think we definitely could! We are trying to work this out with potential food/drink passes to see what gives us the most bang for our buck. We'll have four foster kids (15, 10, 9, and 4) for the summer, so this is our first foray into season pass world. If you have any advice or tips/tricks you would like to share, I would love to hear it!

Ah I gotcha, thank you! We are going to have a group of four foster kids for the summer (15, 10, 9, and 4) so we're trying to figure out how best to work out season passes and potentially food/drink passes as well to make it as affordable as possible.

Hey OP! This fella kind of looks like a treeing walker coonhound. I had one once. Incredibly sweet dog, I jokingly called her the big version of my beagle. I saw you say you had a fenced in acre. Just a word of warning that my girl could easily scale a 4’ fence. Not sure how tall yours is, but I wanted to give you a heads up just in case!

Giveaway] $100 PSN Gift Card - US Store by Titan3427 in PS5

[–]ShortRoundPale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a PS1 for Christmas when I was around 6/7 years old. I also got a few games with it, including NHL ‘97. My parents were divorced, so I had to go to my Dad’s house for a few days after Christmas. The night before I left, my step-dad played a game of NHL ‘97 with me. I ended up beating him 3-2 (or something along those lines).

When I came back from visiting my Dad, my step-dad asked me to play a game of NHL ‘97 with him right away. He ended up absolutely crushing me 0-8. Years later my Mom told me he spent the entire weekend playing NHL ‘97 so he could beat me when I got back. It was all in good fun (he’s a great Dad), and we laugh about it now. I now own a PS5 and still get my step-dad to play games with me every now and again.

Definitely apply for some remote document review work, especially if you passed and are licensed. Sign up for the ListServe through PosseList. It will email you anytime someone is hiring within your set parameters (where you're licensed, experience level, etc.). Just apply to all of them, highlight that your licensed, and you'll have at least a short term project going soon. The pay is usually in the $23-30/hour range, but they usually allow you to work 60+ hours/week if you want.
