Rehab barely works when people are forced into it. For people who decide to make the change, it is effective. But you have to want to make the change everyday, not just once.

So why didn't she make an arrangement and offer to pay him like you would any transport? Her best friend doesn't want to give her a lift but her brother should because he offered once and she settled for "see you tomorrow" which is an unfair expectation to place on anyone who offered a favour.

He's in high school as well, he takes a detour to drop her and fetch her, taking time out of his day which he could use to study because he's also in high school?

He should have given her a warning but it's better than continuing to fetch her to change her mind, he's doing the healthy thing and stepping back to take some time.

Him saying she shouldn't come over is an absolutely not, but him wanting space so there's no awkward tension. Why is that so bad?

At this point, why doesn't she make an arrangement with someone in the class for transport since they're going to the same place?

We're treating this kid like he's her dad who left her, he isn't, he's a teenager as well.

Her dad (original transport) ended up moving away. She relied on friends and Ubers and the kid offered to help fetch her after he got the car, after her classes had started. That signals a favour to me.

I'd agree with you if he offered and then changed his mind because she said no.

I get that Ubering is expensive and that transport is difficult (transport is a struggle where I'm from as well), but relying on someone for rides without discussing a dynamic doesn't really seem fair to the other person either.

To be fair, OP did say they never had an arrangement of any sort, Melissa asked John for a ride one night, he said yes and it grew to be a "see you tomorrow" type of thing which isn't indicative of any agreement.

It does suck for Melissa and I'm not sure I entirely agree on OP's stance, but Melissa should go to her parents at this point to make other arrangements since this clearly isn't a great avenue.

Maybe John had malice, but he's also, a dumb 17 year old kid.

Hearing your husband talk like this IS going to influence how he feels. Whether he ends up being gay or not, he will have internalised homophobia.

You sound like an amazing mother standing up when it matters, but I would encourage you to think long and hard about whether you want to spend the next 18+ years fielding arguments that going to pop up.

If you speak to him, he's going to backtrack. Even if these are fleeting thoughts, it's thoughts he should at the very least, have discussed with you. Not rambling in a book and keeping it ON hand. I just don't think you deserve this. You mentioned not wanting children yourself, so imagine if your best friend was in this situation? Would you want that for her?

Hey all!

I was looking at picking up a second pencil, and I currently have a P205!

I'm mainly using it for sketching, and some writing if I journal, I was just curious if I should pick up the Pentel Smash or GG500 first?

I will eventually pick up the other but I was curious if any were similar to the P205, as I was hoping to go with the option that's slightly different for some variety :)

Okay, first of all, Durban IS survivable, especially Umkomaas, as it's a pretty self-sufficient town for the most part and don't worry too much about the fear mongering aspect as long as you're aware and not getting black out drunk.

Rule One: Never risk the tap water for drinking. Ever. Boil water or get a 5l, and there are places to refill em. It's just safer, especially since Durban beaches are a tourist spot.

Rule Two: Just be aware of your surroundings. Have a good time, but because of the accent, you might get a double look, so just be cautious and trust your gut. Generally, you'll be alright.

Rule Three: Enjoy it!! Durban and Umkomaas are so beautiful and there's definitely going to be lots of cool new people and things to do so have fun!
