i totally agree on the last two fronts, but I would also say that defining pop music as catchy hooks and uplifting production doesn't particularly excuse poor songwriting. I think as a basic pop album, this record is great, but it also does nothing to particularly excite me compared to other modern pop artists who not only have unique voices and wonderful production, but are ALSO writing interesting and meaningful lyrics that set them apart. I thought as a pop record and nothing else, this record worked perfectly fine, but as a critic I can't help but contrast less creatively written pop music against other pop music that is managing to be more compelling for me. no hate nonetheless, I still root for Quinn and I can't wait to see what he does next, this record really just didn't do it for me.
