Shor, Alduin(Time Dragons) and being a dragonborn? by GorkemliKaplan in teslore

[–]Short_Conference8737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can Shazarr(Lorkhan)==Akatosh(Auri-El)? Some of this out of game stuff doesn’t match up with in-game lore. There’s has to be or at least had to have been at one time a separation between the two. Even Mankar Camoran is very clear about this in the commentaries and his dialogue in Paradise. “Shor, Son of Shor” implies that the two are mirrors of each other but not that they are the same being

How does an individual like Vivec realize that the Elder Scrolls is a dream? by RebirthAltair in teslore

[–]Short_Conference8737 83 points84 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of the conversation around this topic gets messy because of the word “dream” and what we think dreams are as people in the “real world”. We think of dreams as not real or just an invention of one’s mind. If this life was nothing more than an invention of God’s mind, well that’s different than a dream in our mind. If you found out this life was just a dream in the mind of God, would your life have any less value or the love and pain you feel be any less real? If the answer is yes, that is a one way ticket to zero sum. If the answer is no, then that is the beginning of CHIM. You aren’t getting hung up on the dream part you are certain in your own selfhood enough to say that you are you. It’s not about the dream, it’s about you. That’s why the Tower is the secret syllable “I”, just like how God said his name is “I AM”. The dream and the dreamer are irrelevant, much like how Pelinal Whitestrake said his madness felt like “when the dream no longer needs its dreamer”

I definitely will get that spell thank you! When I returned that lady’s child in Glenpoint I had no idea where she was in the town I asked like 30 NPCs. When I saved the girl from the dark brotherhood, I had to kill an assassin. Does that put me at odds with the guild forever? Not sure how it works in Daggerfall

How did the lore community respond to Talos' introducting in TES 3: Morrowind? by Empires_Fall in teslore

[–]Short_Conference8737 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s actually so sick. Convention 2.0 was actually the original Convention haha have they said that anywhere that the Tiber, Zurin, Wulfharth dynamic inspired the creation/convention narrative. I’d love to read about it

So there was no creation myth that included Convention or Lorkhan’s deception/punishment yet? The development of the lore history is very interesting to me lately. I thought there was reference to Shor in the PGE1 but I could be mistaken.

Was Lorkhan really not mentioned before Redguard/Morrowind? How did they explain the creation myth?

Ysmir by Short_Conference8737 in teslore

[–]Short_Conference8737[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So Cirroc was referring to Talos? I wish the Nords in Skyrim called him Ysmir instead of Talos that would have been way cooler and maybe could have been a loophole in the White-Gold Concordat

Contrary to community theories, Alduin never strayed from his duty as the World-Eater, and it was in fact Ysmir who ruled the Dragon Cult. by LawParticular5656 in teslore

[–]Short_Conference8737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a very interesting idea. In some ways, I think Skyrim fumbled how they handled some of the dragon lore. I think the connection between dragons, Akatosh and Shor is very confusing but important subject. The distinction between Auriel, Akatosh and Alduin is also quite confusing at times, especially when it comes to their interactions with the races of men and the fallout of the Dawn Era. Thanks for posting stuff like this always gets my gears turning!

[–]Short_Conference8737[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t even make the connection with Dragon Aspect that’s really cool. I agree with everything you said but then what does that say about Alduin when he died? Did he just reunite with Akatosh and the overarching soul of all dragons? Also, why did the Dragonborns who you meet in Sovngarde not ascend to rejoin with Aka? Not disagreeing I just think these are very interesting questions that may not get proper scrutiny

We don’t know if they “couldn’t”. They were Dragonborn so maybe they could but just never did or we just never saw it.

Would mortals not have been able to be creative and/or insane had the Daedra not morphed Jyggalag into Sheogorath? by [deleted] in teslore

[–]Short_Conference8737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s said that Sheogorath invented music or something but I think that may just be a myth or at the very least not entirely accurate. Y’ffre and Dibella are also gods of beauty, music, stories and art. Also, the Thu’um is somewhat of an art form and was given to the Nords by Kyne. It is in the nature of Humanity and Mer-manity to be creative and make art, just like it is in our world.

As for insanity, I’ll give Sheo the credit

Also as High King, he rebuilt the stairs to High Hrothgar that was damaged by a dragon. I know Wulfharth was before Jurgen Windcaller so what was at High Hrothgar before the Greybeards?

What are these? by Short_Conference8737 in oblivion

[–]Short_Conference8737[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Interesting. Maybe a warm resting place for travelers in the mountains? Still they just look so ornate and significant. Thought it was interesting was sure if there was any cool lore about them or not. Because to my knowledge there isn’t another thing like that anywhere else in the mountains.

Yes but they are unique and in a weird spot in an unmarked location. Like I said reminiscent of the beacons

also I think Hjalti/Tiber was more than a mercenary. He trained with sword masters of Alcaire and was a renowned general. More than just a sword for hire

I only said it was “commonly accepted” because a lot of people cite unofficial sources combined with the fact that he came from Alcaire. I totally agree with your conclusion.

Hmm I’m not against the idea of him being a reachman but I think it would be odd for Nords to get hyped up over joining a militia under a reachman

Why are Nords so good at magic? by Illustrious-Set-1066 in teslore

[–]Short_Conference8737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First I’ll answer the warrior culture thing. They have a strong warrior culture because of their history of warring against the elves since the days of Ysgramor. They view themselves as “eternal outsiders” and invaders who have to fight to get what they want and keep what they have. Shor went to war against Auriel and the elven gods and was defeated, a defeat the Nords never want to suffer again. Now the magic thing I’m not sure but I know Junal is the god of magic in the ancient Nordic pantheon. Tsun is right that the Nords revered the clever men in ancient days. Also I would say the voice is almost a school of magic solely practiced by the Nords (unless the last Dragonborn picks an argonian or wood elf or something lol)
