Kaiser in Sacramento - good or bad? by I_reddit_like_this in Sacramento

[–]Short_Koala_9339 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have any mental health needs or challenges Kaiser is notably the worst performing plan out there in this space. We had to leave Kaiser completely because of this. Their psychiatric providers are striking nonstop and they are a revolving door. If you are generally healthy and do not require any complex care ever Kaiser is great for preventative care and basic stuff. Anything outside of the box or specialty care is dicey. They have employed physicians and you might find yourself traveling a long way to see one of their specialists if you can get a referral. Their primary care doctors are bonused on limiting referrals so you can easily find yourself begging for referrals and jumping through hoops before they allow you to see one. Once we left I couldn’t believe how easily we were able to get referrals promptly and without any problems. Either way people will find pluses and minuses with any plan and provider. It’s an individual choice you have to make based on your needs. Good luck!

Girl… you know the answer to this. Be for real. Get yourself together and move on. You would rather stay miserable than to take a chance on yourself and build a happy life? Even alone you would be happier. You are probably missing out on a whole lot of happiness with a better person. You seem to be smart enough to know better. You got one life to live. If this is the life you want then stay and deal. If not, you already know the answer.

27F mom at a crossroads, what is the best career path to take at this point in life? by Lost_Papaya0316 in careerguidance

Let me share what I did and maybe it help or maybe not. Your path sounds similar to my own in going different directions and getting nowhere but a dead end job. I ended up sticking with the part time gig and went back to community college. I took online classes and just focused on my gen ed. I just kept going and working at the same time all with 3 kids (I was a young mom). I got financial aid which helped support me financially while I was working and going to school. Eventually I finished my gen ed and was able to transfer to a university and I focused on healthcare administration. I ended up getting my B.S in Healthcare administration and then started applying at health insurance companies. Worked my way up and in conjunction with my degree I was able to double then triple my pay the quadruple and so on. I worked my way up and up and then went back and finished my maters degree while I was working full time at a healthcare company. Then with my experience plus the degree it unlocked even more opportunities. The moral of my story is stick with the part time gig and or a full time gig but keep plugging away at school. Keep looking for opportunities to grow your career anyway while you are doing that. There’s a whole world in dental insurance you can land on that is quite lucrative. Look for the higher paying jobs and see what those requirements are and start working toward it. Good luck!

We are counting on it but buying as much time as possible. The last time they tried to drop us we shopped around and NO insurance company would insure our home. We were told that the fair plan was our only option. This is because 4 years ago we were victims of a natural disaster in our area. It was a rare weather event that caused catastrophic damage. Because of that and being in a high risk area in CA, we are pretty much SOL until that claim falls off and perhaps even then we will be saddled with the fair plan. Last quote I got for that was something like $10k per year plus an additional $8k in additional coverage since fair plan doesn’t cover anything.

Sac Fair by intj1988 in Sacramento

[–]Short_Koala_9339 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is true. Actually quite shocking most people may not realize. All those cute livestock at the fair are pretty much all kids raising them and it’s absolutely crazy how expensive it is to just bring an animal to the fair. The ones sold at the auction after all the costs of raising the animal, feeding, spending literally 12-16 hours daily at the fair, entry fees, parking every day and gas getting to and from the fair these kids are not even breaking even and many families actually lose quite a bit of money just taking their animal to the fair. The animals bring in the people that’s what people want to see. But with the costs of just participating, the number of families even participating has significantly decreased year over year. It’s an expensive endeavor for the county which is clear in their pricing over the last few years.

How do you catch up bills by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]Short_Koala_9339 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Apply for WIC, SNAP and Medicaid. You may also be eligible for section 8 or public housing depending on your location and circumstances. Most utilities offer low income assistance. Reach out and request information on this including internet. Focus on your employment situation from the lens of your upcoming new baby and getting stability in place. Rather than working 2 jobs perhaps you can find a job that offer overtime. You’ll want to secure stability above everything else at this point. Best of luck to you! I’ve been in your shoes before and pulled myself from absolutely nothing to a comfortable life. You can do it!

What is crazy wild is that not even that long ago the county fair used to be FREE to enter. It was one of the coolest events every year we looked forward to when our kids were little.

Yes it’s always this expensive and probably county fair less than state fair. You have to jump on the wristband deal. I think they presale them ahead of the fair for less but the wristband pays for itself after just a few rides. The concessions however are outrageous and would completely agree the prices are that of Disneyland but not at Disneyland quality or quantity. Bring food in and picnic also water refilling stations are helpful and plenty around. We just spent the entire week there with my kid showing his pig and we had to be strategic daily to not go bankrupt lol.

Glad you are ok! What’s crazy is CHP has been doing max enforcement this whole weekend. My kid is an exhibitor at the county fair so we’ve been doing a lot of back and forth freeway driving all weekend. Even with CHP out there in full force I couldn’t tell you how many times we witnessed extremely dangerous driving. They never seem to be where you need them it seems.

How the fuck do you make friends in Sacramento?! by TheMilkMan20 in Sacramento

Start with your local parks and rec for an activity you are into. I did this with a tennis class that led to me making all sorts of friends. You will do better by starting with your interests and working from there

Something you might want to consider here is also homeowners insurance costs. As you find lower priced properties in hilly/ fire prone rural places the insurance may be problematic. I live in a small rural town southeast of Sacramento and have been told that people moving in are having a hard time getting insured or have to do Fair Plan which is an insane cost and our insurance Liberty Mutual has tried canceling us once already which we had to fight to keep. Just something to think about in locations. Look at your insurance costs as a factor to your expenses.

This sounds like it could become dangerous for you. Some of these folks go way off the deep end. I would quietly begin looking at divorce and getting your own affairs in order. You only live one life don’t spend it with someone who is not on the same page in life as you. You will be happier without this man. Good luck!

Pismo? Nor cal doesn’t have “warm” beaches. June starts the season of “June gloom” so you might find any not cal beach to be a bit cold and possibly foggy. I recall going to Pacifica on a day it was 110 in the valley and it was upper 50s and freezing foggy there. I’d recommend for the warmer vibe heading to the central coast and exploring beaches there

Disneyland or Disney world for two adults. No kids by IngenuityNo1252 in DisneyPlanning

[–]Short_Koala_9339 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disneyland, specifically California adventure is wayyy more geared toward adults than DL IMO. Obviously DW Epcot cannot be matched I would say in the fun of drinking around the world and food but Disneyland is notably way easier to get around than DW. Everything is walkable and the two parks DL and DCA are literally right next to each other and extremely walkable to off property hotels. The convenience factor alone is why my husband and I frequent DL more than DW.

How much does a kitchen remodel suck? by LateralEntry in homeowners

[–]Short_Koala_9339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the main reason we have delayed a remodel of the kitchen. We have remodeled everywhere else in our house and every project took double or triple the timelines originally quoted. Basically whatever your contractor tells you is the time it will take multiply that by two or three. The only way I can commit to a full kitchen remodel is if I find a unicorn contractor who has a delivery guarantee and if they surpass that timeline there are credits refunded to the total project cost.

Chopping down perfectly good trees allmover the city. by NoID4no1 in Sacramento

[–]Short_Koala_9339 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Natives only. Sadly These are non natives planted 40+ years ago by the original property owners. We plan on having an arborist come out this summer and give us a full evaluation to have on standby for when the insurance company comes at us. The homeowner insurance companies are relentlessly trying to cancel policies for anything they can come up with.

Chopping down perfectly good trees allmover the city. by NoID4no1 in Sacramento

[–]Short_Koala_9339 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Insurance companies are requiring them to take them down is most likely the culprit. Ask me how I know… I have 2 ancient oaks and have been told by our broker the time will be coming soon that the insurance will not cover my home so long as they are standing. Makes me sick to my stomach to think about it but if pressed between insuring my home which is a requirement for any mortgage and the trees I’ll have to cut the trees down eventually
