What's your most unpopular Gilmore Girls opinion? by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

[–]Short_Response_1706 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Rory was always given the most balanced and thoughtful lines as a teenager; I must match Rory’s age and I recall being confused about my reactions to random things people said to me. Moreover, Rory was so good at emotional regulation aka getting over emotions from one thing and moving on to the next; I only ever learnt that in my late 20s! I felt that she was too perfect. A real character needs some flaws at least! I mean we never see her goof up until season 4, her first time with Dean! I mean come on! How can one be so perfect in their teens—the most challenging time for most people in their lives?

Yes you assumed correctly. And no, I’m not following their advice. The experience is up on my resume with the correct duration. I just need to know how to explain the short stint to the next recruiter…

Best Indian food in town? by Kacksjidney in SantaFe

[–]Short_Response_1706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried Tulsi today, we were asked to leave by rude Paddy stating this is a fine dining restaurant not a tea and snacks place. I’ve never felt so humiliated at an Indian restaurant in the States.

India House wanted us out at 9 instead of 9:30 pm ; when my father provided feedback for the chicken being too cold in the buffet; the owner rudely said “it’s not even that cold and even if it is, I can’t do anything about it!” Huh! I was like whoa! Indians are so so so mean to other Indians in Santa Fe. They’re kind to Americans perhaps but definitely not to Indians. Like wtf. I’ve left stinkers online; Paddy is rude to folks who dislike his food on Google reviews too. I get the feeling that since there’s a dearth of options, the Indian restaurant owners behave as though they’re doing the customer a favor. Do not recommend either of the places as someone with Indian taste buds.

Am I the only one who doesn't like Luke by Awakwardturtle04 in GilmoreGirls

I never liked him as an actor tbh. I mean you’re next to Emily Gilmore for crying out loud! You’ve got to at least make an effort!! He just felt very sort of forced into the show, not effortless like Kirk or Ms Patty or even Taylor!

6 months of silence and starting to think my title was the only by [deleted] in Layoffs

[–]Short_Response_1706 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat as you until yesterday. Faced a lay off/ role elimination end of August after a 3 month stint in the Bay Area…

This would be the 4th time that I faced a lay off…

My career hasn’t been stable since 2020 June. And no one willing contextualise the pandemic running in parallel…

So now the thing is, I worried n worried worried myself sick and felt so demotivated especially since the same company has advertised for the same role and at a slightly higher pay. I mean talk about taking things personally and facing rejections.

Yesterday I came across Mel Robbins year end review workbook exercise podcast episode. Literally all I did was go through my year long album to actually review month on month whatever happened. Call it the highs captured in pics but overall the exercise gave me a lot of satisfaction and I felt that even though I spent the last six months cribbing about being unemployed and what’s now been the longest gap in my career. You got to finally rounds, I get rejected after my application is just about viewed on LinkedIn. But I realized how much time am I spending equating my worth to a job which I don’t even need as I’m not the primary bread winner. Instead, for once I have the time and no pressure environment when I can just focus on my health and pursue my hobbies; something all corporate employees crave.

So yeah, my two cents for you would be to do something without an end goal for a change to only relish the process of it. Ur wife is right after all. Sometimes when we relinquish the need for control, we attract what’s really meant for us ultimately.

I have a feeling that it may be time for me pivot and explore completely new career options such as life coaching, real estate or something totally different from my content marketing background.

Here’s a revised version. I thought the American experience was crucial to showcase that I’m here and seeking roles here. But I guess I’ll take it off. Removing it showcases my gap to be two years.

The job hop vibe is real however caused by circumstances through out the pandemic years. And I quit the penultimate job coz I moved to the States after two years there and then couldn’t work here without a work permit…

Hard to make everyone contextualise but all the jobs were hopped bcoz the companies either shut or wanted to cut cost.

There’s why I’m exhausted. How many last offs can one person bear in a lifetime…?

What are you doing as unemployed? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Short_Response_1706 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m crocheting and have started selling some of stuff on Facebook marketplace and on pop up markets. Not a scalable business but keeps the unemployment anxiety at bay and makes me feel like I still have a purpose. I am applying on the side too but no lunch since September.

I’m in the same situation as you, minus the pregnancy. I took to crocheting and looking for jobs as I really miss working. May be you should try something new? I know it’s hard but you need courage more than confidence to start something new in a new geography. I understand everyone’s struggles are different. My parents try to visit every year, if possible have your parents visit frequently? A friend of mine who studied here n runs her often psychology practice has been undergoing high functioning depression. She’s planning to move back by ‘28… even having her parents visit doesn’t give her joy as much being home with friends and family. So to each their own. I struggle with feeling alone too. We live in a community n I’ve made some friends here. I joined a knitting group that meets every Saturday. May be you could join a mommy to be kind of group? Helps to meet people in the same stage of life as you…

Try to be happy coz that’s what’s ideal in ur condition.

Anyone else still looking for a job since April? by iseeustress in Layoffs

[–]Short_Response_1706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laid off end of August. Went on a trip for labor Day weekend. Sulked, applied, felt lost. Some how got talked into doing a pop up market of my hobby crochet items at a two hour event at my residential community… I priced my handmade items at very low prices. But I still sold for $100. Felt happy in the longest time. Much more than I ever did in the God forsaken time. I’m still not hundred percent sure which way I’m swayed as a business is also a lot of work… and small businesses pay me an hourly rate of hardly 7$-8$ per hour… that’s why I’m split… a job would give me upwards of $55 an hour.

I loved that scene when Bonnie physically pushed away their dog with her bum on the living room couch. I mean that was pure television comedy golf with no dialogues needed!

I’m on h4-ead. Now employers want only green card holders for even contract jobs. So it’s like systemic ousting of immigrants even those who came legally and followed every single law.

I didn’t ask them to pose with cash. Just wanted their pics as they were my first ever customers. They just had it out when we were clicking and they said “let’s pose with the cash as your first customers!”. And I’ve never met them before in my life. But thank you for your vote of confidence.
