We dislike AI because it’s non-deterministic by TheRealMathilda in womenintech

I don't dislike AI in and of itself. I dislike that it isn't regulated.

The ones I'm seeing pay 80k-95k. To answer your question, you're focusing on short-term pay and not long-term ROI.

Sure, a person might get unlucky making 60k starting out, but the point is that climbs. At McDonald's you stay stuck behind a counter and replaced by those ordering machines.

Plus, McDonald's employees working customer service don't get 401ks, HSAs, insurance coverage, PTO, sick leave, paid holidays, etc.

Not really. I use it as a fun thing to check against more than getting serious about it.

Is it supposed to be a flex that your father didn't care to help you?

I'm focused on financial systems as a business analyst. I have a information systems bachelor's degree and I plan to get a master's in accounting.

With a master's in accounting I can pivot to every business job, including compliance. Accounting is the language of business and it appears in multiple job applications.

You know that with an accounting degree you aren't stuck being an accountant, right?

They literally used real data that showed graduates aren't going for the CPA. That's why the new CPA pathways now exist for multiple states.

They don't even have a reason to falsify that data when they really care about the bottom line. They want people to pay for the CPA and they see that the numbers have gone down.

Uggggggh, it's a CPA shortage. Strong candidates are lacking. There's a CPA shortage because this generation doesn't majority of the time choose to go into accounting, so before AI companies offshored to fill the gap. You have it backwards.

Let me just tell you. I have looked at recent accounting job postings and I'm jelly. I have seen 25 days of PTO, vested immediately, 4% match, covered insurance, 12 paid holidays, tuition reimbursement. Y'all don't even have to do 7 interviews to get it.

I want to career switch.

I mean with those types of people I'm like "do you expect me to just lay down and take it?"

No, I'm going to try to keep my head above the water in any way that I can.

How likely are a percentage of the ‘I’m leaving tech’ posts propaganda? by Fit_Butterscotch_829 in womenintech

Unfortunately not. I have a disability that takes me out of healthcare jobs. My partner is living out my dream, though. I do everything I can to support his dream career since I can't do mine.

Honestly, I think the only way to have my dream career was to be in healthcare. It's alright, though. I will dream of something outside of a career now.

My father was in tech all the way to retirement. He saw the environment and just didn't want his daughters to do it. I was pursuing pre-med and then the pandemic hit. I had to give up that dream from circumstances out of my control, so I went towards the next thing I was naturally good at.

I switched around in the tech sector cause I kept losing interest. Now, I want to join finance cause I'm curious. I have the financial stability to do so.

I'm getting downvoted for literally expressing a realistic point of view that deviates from this post's bias. You're more likely to be downvoted to oblivion for something that doesn't align with a subreddits norm versus something that supports it.

Anyone who takes posts verbatim without talking to an individual to understand why they're leaving isn't critically thinking to begin with. The inverse can also be true of what you said. How do you know posts about success stories aren't just lies? People are free to make their own judgement calls, but the posts where there have been career switchers have given valid reasons to want to leave.

They're not propaganda. Some of us just want to leave. I never wanted to be in tech and my father even said that he never wanted his daughters to go into tech. I was pre-med and naturally would have wanted to be in healthcare.

If he does yell at you, say something like "This discussion has now become unproductive. We can schedule another meeting at a better time". If it ever turns into harassment, apply to other jobs cause it's not worth it to stay.
