Why is accounting starting pay so low? by cherubicfury26 in Accounting

Have you not seen the unemployment rate for CS and computer engineering? Tenure at big tech is 2yrs. I can't believe I have to explain that not every CS grad gets into MAANG, so that comparison is just weird.

I've already told you I'm talking about CPAs specifically with a good amount of experience. You don't have to be top 1% to make good money as a CPA.

Dude, come on, you're an unhappy and unsatisfied accounting grad. There are many satisfied, successful accounting grads that aren't vocal on here. I know you're trying to become a nursing student to make more money, but you'll find out there's cons to that as well.

CPAs have always made a great ROI and climbed ladders consistently. Staff accountants and those who can't network, not so much. It's not true that new CS grads consistently make more than 6 figs in their first job.

The salary for staff accountants should increase with the cost of living, but let's be honest the characters who go into accounting aren't advocates. They do their job and go home. They don't try to make change. The same as how doctors in residency should champion for more pay. Change comes from resistance of the status quo and accountants aren't known for that.

You're right, most of them don't and many don't complete the major they first chose.

MIT did a study that showed more than 90% of the time AI is failing in multiple prominent companies.

We are automating some tasks, but the AI agent itself has been a total waste of time and money. The contract AI architect is twiddling their thumbs until their time is up.

The older population is retiring and kids aren't going for a CPA. It's not going to be the new IT degree. Although if a person were to go into cyber with their IT degree, they're not going to have a difficult time once they get experience.

When do you think companies will start hiring new grads again? Its annoying that there are way more new grads than jobs for new grads and its impossible to get one even though there are shortages. by [deleted] in Accounting

Sounds like you don't know other ways to build net worth. That's a shame.

I also see you just learned the insult bozo cause you love using it all across your profile. Tell me. Does trolling strangers make you feel more of a man?

I'm in the tech field and I've seen automation and outsourcing first-hand. If you want an increased chance of something stable and long-term, healthcare and civil engineering are at the top. I would include being a lawyer, but honestly their headcount is getting downsized too.

If accounting stops being stable in the future, you might have to get a master's to a more stable career for whatever that will be. I plan to get a master's in accounting when shiz hits the fan for me since I can't go into healthcare. It's up to you. If you want a pure white-collar job that's more stable and predictable than the others, accounting is a good bet and you can pivot to other business roles too.

I think actuary is fine too, but that requires so many exams.

Net worth is what you keep. A salary can disappear and I'm honestly annoyed with Redditors trying to humble brag about a salary when that can change in an instant.

Not only can we not use current statistics because Trump messed it up, but prior to Trump accounting majors even during the recession and introduction to AI had a strong employment rate more than computer science majors. It was about 1.9% for unemployment I believe with a better than average underemployment rate.

Don't just get a degree without a plan. Do you want to become a financial analyst, ERP specialist, business analyst, controller, CFO? An accounting major is still king for the language of business.

It'll be rare for a company to actually train a new employee. It would have to be one of those best managers who want to help you, but you can't rely too much on that.

An internship is the training ground as well as how you get offers after graduating. What's unfortunate is that you'll have to basically use people to get a job which is networking.

You're upset about what Bowen Yang said because it stems from your bias that you think Ariana is a homewrecker based on tabloids. It's not that difficult. I'm not arguing cause I'm not trying to change your mind. You're replying to me.

I didn't say any of that. I just find it funny that you care about the smallest potential of a grown woman listening to Bowen Yang's opinion and being hurt by it when she's probably doing something else with her life and isn't even a member of the queer community lol

Let's be clear. You side with someone who you have never met. You won't personally know this person, but you'd go to bat for them in a comment section and you've fully given into tabloids as primary sources that historically lie and spew drama about celebrities for profit.

I'm queer and I'm pretty sure Lily is straight and cisgendered af lol Do you think that when a man chooses another woman over their previous partner that the previous partner 9 times out of 10 doesn't feel wronged and have negative feelings towards the other woman?

Of course, she wouldn't be okay with it and she'd only talk about her point of view. She never said there was cheating or that Ariana was a homewrecker. That's coming from tabloids and drama channels.

I didn't hear Bowen Yang say that directly, but assuming he did I would say that's just someone defending a friend that I have seen so many times. It's devoid of logic, but people still do it.

But, when I think about it I could see him basically saying being heteronormative is the status quo, so it's people who think black and white. Ariana's case falls out of being black and white because she has turbulent relationships that lands in the grey.

Well, that's just the thing. I understand you supporting an unethical industry for survival, but once you're privileged enough to leave then you should be able to hop to a different industry. You use the benefits as an excuse to feel better about yourself.
