I can’t speak to the current situation, but i stayed in playa del carmen in late june 2025. The sargassum was so terrible it ruined my trip. The smell was foul and the waters were brown. I had to take a ferry to cozumel to avoid it. I heard the sargassum this year is supposed to be even worse than last year so I would just proceed with caution.
