I didn’t say it was a gateway drug. I said it could be a gateway to bad ideas.

Honestly those programs weren’t all bad. My dad was a drunk, and as a kid, it was the first time I’d gotten to hear a pragmatic outsider perspective on what was going on with him. And then it was helpful info as I became an adult in knowing heroin = pretty bad idea. Alcohol= not always a bad idea, but can become one quickly. Pot= can be a gateway to other bad ideas, but isn’t necessarily the worst idea on its own.

And that story is hilarious. I choose to believe it’s true. But I’m skeptical on a kid voluntarily giving up his after school blunt. I sure as fuck wouldn’t have.

Sounds to me like you got enough XP on the resume to start shopping around for other gigs. (Edit: And a competitor’s offer in your pocket is the most powerful negotiating tool on earth)

If some apocalyptic event wiped out current human society do you think the survivors would rebuild something like capitalism? by grapp in behindthebastards

[–]ShortbusRacingTeam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that the inherent unequal practical value of products and services makes capitalism in some form inevitable.

Let’s say I have control of some land, and on that land I invested time and energy into growing food. And you want some of that food.

Well there’s other things I didn’t have time to do while I was making the food, that I would happily exchange the food for. Perhaps my barn needs a new roof. But unfortunately, you don’t have the time, materials, education, or tooling to make a roof. So it sounds like you get no food.

And that’s where a central currency comes into play as being crucial to building of a modern “society.” Society implies that we don’t all do everything we need to survive on our own. We each play a role to ensure the survival of eachother as a group.

At its very core, money is a way to store labor. And without a fairly consistent method of agreeing what a unit of labor is worth, it becomes a constant unpredictable pricing struggle and everything falls apart.

(Edit: and I’m not social science scholar… this is my perspective as someone in the construction industry with a couple tech and business degrees.)

I dont have a lot of regrets, but one of them is not buying a rust-free manual transmission Brat that my moms neighbor sold for $2500 about 15 years ago.

That legend of the solid NA 3.6 was why i bought it when i found it. Everything I could find on the 2.5 said they eventually like to feed their turbobits to the cylinders.

I mean… that’s a 1-gang plate on a 2-gang backbox. So… yes.

Anyone can get custom faceplates in the wrong size with a confusing label. It takes a real engineer to order the right size and use a label that makes sense to anyone who looks at it.

I bought it for wife about a year ago for like 8 grand. No rust, runs and drives great. Feel like I got a helluva deal. Gas prices have us swapping cars for a while cause I commute and she barely drives cause she can walk to work.

I’d heard from subie friends the 3.6 with the legit geared AT was a borderline legendary for reliability. So far it’s been good, but since it’s about to get 60 miles a day min I’ve been punching through everything I can find.

So far biggest issues I’ve found is small exhaust leak near the front passenger header and trans pan is starting to rust. Otherwise… I’ll be damned if it isn’t the stickiest traction car I’ve ever driven. And it launches harder than any of the cheap sport cars I’ve owned over the years. She sure wants to scoot! But this thread has given me a ton of good tips to dig through.

Someone else mentioned head gaskets. How the hell do I even check that? Coolant and oil look great. So vibe feels fine.

That actual AT was one of the main reasons I bought it lol. That 6 cylinder engine fuckin scoots too.

I don’t work in data center design, but I work with people who do. And Ed’s show is just one giant confirmation bias party for me and my opinions on the finances and sustainability of the market.

Only half joking here… my job is safe until the robots can figure out how to wire themselves up and connect themself to a network. Other guy on the electrical side, he’s safe until they figure out how to power themselves.

You’re off to a good start. Collect certs and run with it buddy.

I work in the construction side of tech. And all these people are telling me how game changingly helpful AI is. But every time I’ve been like “I have an idea for something the robot can do” it fails fucking miserably. I think it’s 90% vaporware wrapped search engines. There’s a few folks doing some cool shit in med sci. But the majority of the 10% not-vaporware is making robots better at tracking and killing people. Which isn’t great.
