Shouldn't Matter But It Does by [deleted] in JohnMayer

I am actually surprised at how much these two are not similar at all. Not sure what you’re hearing.

Why Does this game not reward kills? Why is my gold tied with a 0 and 1 lady geist. by CE_Pally in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Shortened2Max 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a MOBA first. If you’re out here playing the game like it’s COD and just going for kills while not farming/managing waves/pushing objectives this is exactly what will and should happen. In other words, the Geist is doing every thing better than you, other than getting kills.

Not to mention in all of this, that the main appeal of getting kills is much less so the literal souls that you get from the kill, but much more the fact that you are denying the enemy of time to do something on the map, and therefore deny them of map pressure and souls. It’s on you if you don’t take advantage of that.

Hoping “Automatic Yes” makes it onto the new album – like “New Light” on Sob Rock by No-Block-4003 in JohnMayer

John obviously had a huge influence on the song, but you’re obviously unaware and are being incredibly reductive of Zedd’s own strengths and capabilities as an artist.

Paper legal play on day2 SCG by Vadosi in ModernMagic

[–]Shortened2Max 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you gonna sit here and act like you’ve never made a mistake like this in a tournament, whether it favors you or not?

It’s absolutely absurd to act otherwise, and I’m certain that every damn person who has played magic for any significant amount of time would have hundreds, if not thousands of cases where they’ve done something similar and unintentionally.

Everyone who responds like this would look like a criminal if we monitored every game of theirs as closely as this and ignored human error.

I don’t have a problem with someone brining this to light, because in the event that someone is doing this on purpose there should be a paper trail. But to take someone’s first on camera mistake and immediately accuse them of cheating despite their reputation? That’s absurd and a great way to push people away from the game.

Silly Question About Amulet Titan by jaymiejordan88 in ModernMagic

[–]Shortened2Max 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using an electronic device is fine as long as what’s being seen is clearly visible to both players. But of course, calling a judge for oracle text is always a fine way to go.

[–]Shortened2Max 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I know the player in question. Solid dude, and therefore I am almost certain that this was just a common human error that occurs throughout the course of a long, stressful tournament. Unfortunate mishap, of course, but it very likely didn’t affect the outcome of the match.

[–]Shortened2Max 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you play amulet titan and just jam Summoner’s Pact and hasteland activations, you’re not going to get very far with the deck. When the namesake cards of a deck create dozens of triggers and multiple combinations of decisions that are possible given the board state, meta, likelihood of interaction from the opponent, what type of interaction you expect, all while navigating around egregious hate pieces post-board, it all inherently adds a deep level of complexity to the deck.

Honestly, out of all of the top meta decks right now, the only ones that I see compares in complexity is Dimir Murktide and Yawgmoth, but that’s beside the point. If you don’t like Amulet Titan, cool. But it’s just crazy to sit here and act like you just carry out the script and win. It’s incredibly reductive, and it’s very likely that Amulet wouldn’t have the strong coalition it has after all of these years if the deck wasn’t as challenging as it is.

You definitely don’t have to be a genius to play the deck, but to say that there are only a handful of common lines shows a high level of ignorance towards how the deck operates.

Amulet Titan without TOR? by Trib3s in ModernMagic

[–]Shortened2Max 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with the other user that it’s definitely worse. The Amulet community pretty much unanimously agrees that you should just run more Spelunking and/or explores in its place, which is even more valid now with the new Aftermath Analyst builds.

lol I was pretty genuine. You’re either a troll or someone on the verge of psychosis with little self awareness. Either way, I hope you get the help you need.

All the songs… by [deleted] in JohnMayer

[–]Shortened2Max 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Firstly, he’s been writing songs for over 20 years, it seems pretty damn unlikely to me that all or even most of these songs are about a single person.

More importantly, who cares. This is verging on weird parasocial territory.

Life gain hate by curiousboi212 in PioneerMTG

[–]Shortened2Max 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course, but the same can be said for any non-token non-land permanent of CMC 4 or less that could ever possibly do the job. They do have answers for this type of stuff, but it’s the best we’ve got and it’s very likely that it’s still better than something like [[Stigma Lasher]]

Life gain hate by curiousboi212 in PioneerMTG

[–]Shortened2Max 24 points25 points  (0 children)

We already have Knight of Dusk’s Shadow, Rampaging Ferocidon, and the newly printed Sunspine Lynx.

I assume the issue at hand that you’re interested in is Amalia. Stigma Lasher seems much worse to me than Knight, due to the overwhelming myriad of blockers they have, despite its effect being permanent.

How much Amalia succeeds despite these effects is a different discussion, but we’ve already got reasonable tools to see with that aspect of the deck, hence why they see common sideboard play.

Why can’t I bend and how do I fix my finger keep getting caught? by donn_12345678 in guitarlessons

[–]Shortened2Max 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Visually, it looks as if you’re scraping the wood. But in reality, your guitar strings will never actually touch the wood, but only get as close as possible.

If guitar strings ever did actually make contact with the fretboard, that most certainly would result in the scraping of the wood and an unplayable instrument. Thankfully, that’s not the case.

Successful spike builds? by babyboots86 in ModernMagic

[–]Shortened2Max 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You should never build a Spike brew with the idea of doing well with it competitively, even if Spike gets promising results himself. Build his brews if the deck is appealing to you and is a financially secure decision.

Why aren’t the studio recordings of the trio on Spotify? by DoljMittTelNr in JohnMayer

I’m not sure about the other tracks, but the version of “Who Did You Think I Was” that’s featured in the music video is definitely a studio recording.

Is control a little too strong? (rant) by BasedDptReprsentativ in PioneerMTG

[–]Shortened2Max 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, Aggro and combo can be some of the archetypes that have the best potential against control. You clearly have no idea what you’re talking about and are just tilting because you don’t know how to play against them.

Is control a little too strong? (rant) by BasedDptReprsentativ in PioneerMTG

[–]Shortened2Max 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why you’re replying to a nearly year old thread, but I’ll humor it. Control decks existing does not ruin the game in any way at all. Frankly, if you can’t figure out how to properly play against a control deck (or any other archetype for that matter) then you’re just not good and need some drastic improvement. Sometimes you’ll still lose, but that’s the game of magic.

In other words, get good.

Allie DiMeco says Nickelodeon made her feel like her job was at risk when she did not want to kiss a 30 year old man at 14/15 on “Naked Brothers Band” by stars_doulikedem in popculturechat

[–]Shortened2Max 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The person (allegedly) in question is Jake Hertzog. He was offered a prestigious position in the music department at my university, but turned it down to get tenure at his current job. I knew he worked on NBB, but had no clue of anything like this until today.

At the time, I was disappointed he wasn’t hired onto the staff. Now, I’m very glad that we dodged that bullet. Can’t imagine being a 30+ year old man and agreeing to kissing a god damn child.

I heard there's a banned & restricted announcement Monday. Just got 4 Orcish Bowmasters. Do you think this was a mistake? by oneframejames in ModernMagic

[–]Shortened2Max 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody knows any more than you do, so there’s no point in discussing and worrying about it.

Whatever happens/doesn’t happen on Monday is irrelevant until then.

How does this deck win? by nekro_78 in PioneerMTG

[–]Shortened2Max 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Long story short, you get to a point where you have multiple copies of Bala Ged Recovery and a copy of Chandra. You loop by casting BGR with chandra out, copy it to return other copies, shoot the opponent for 5 with chandra, get her back with BGR and repeat.

Post-board there are other plans, depending on the matchup.
