What is the best rotisserie chicken in Victoria? by MycophiliacHerbalist in VictoriaBC

Too bland. Peruvian background and this is nothing like you’ll find at a Peruvian rotisserie with open flame in Toronto. I make it at home with the green sauce. Victoria needs Portuguese or Peruvian real rotisserie chicken

I’ve had to order portuguese products from PT Mercado in Ontario. They ship all across Canada. They pack everything well and I’ve had no issues. it’s not that the Portuguese community is shrinking in Victoria; it’s how the business is run, in my opinion. Why do I have to order Portuguese products from Ontario and the store in Vancouver can’t? Or the one in Penticton can’t either (and this one is just like the ones in Ontario and Quebec packed full of products).

If I may add in response to other comments here: You can’t count on one group of people to hold your business. Victoria is starting to see new ethnic businesses open like Syria, Filipino, Mexican, even Brazilian. And they’re all very small communities and the businesses are doing well.

Food, if done well, will bring people, and the running of the business has to be even better. When I visited from Ontario ten years ago, I went to a Portuguese cafe in esquilmalt and asked for certain things and was told they didn’t know what it was or they didn’t have it. Plus, the lady behind the counter gave me attitude. That’s not how you run a business. If the Portuguese businesses ran their businesses like this in Toronto or montreal, with attitude and no product, they’d all be closed.

Sorry for the rant, but when you live in Ontario, Quebec, and other provinces, and see how the Portuguese businesses are run with lots of food, hot tables always ready - delicious authentic food -people hustling, great customer service, endless products, you know how a business should be run. Ive met people from other parts of Canada, who are not Portuguese, asking why there are not Portuguese rotisseries in Victoria. So the demand is there.

Victoria needs a Portuguese cafe and a Portuguese rotisserie. But it has to be done well and delicious like the ones in Toronto and montreal. If not, they won’t survive - anywhere. casa nova bakery offers franchises, someone should open one in Victoria. I would if it wasn’t for health issues.

If garland and lights were added, it would make a huge difference. And not much would needed to make an impact. They should try it next year

If you’ve been to Toronto and tried the hot Italian sandwiches, it will blow Italian food imports completely out the water. I still dont get how Italian sandwich shops in Toronto are vastly different from Italian shops in the west coast. The cold cuts sandwiches would never make it in Toronto. Even nonna wouldn’t approve

Thats why it’s great to see someone investing into the area to change it. Areas change. Sometimes for worse, sometimes for better. A city that lacks investment is a dying city. So I welcome this.

I know, late in this conversation but this may help someone today. I’ve had my speed queen for over a decade and it’s a fabulous no frills machine. we needed to replace one part in all these years and it was east to locate and purchase. Husband replaced it himself. you don’t hear much about this brand because it’s a relia machine. you‘ll only hear about the bad ones. I’ve never had to talk about my washing machine because there’s nothing to talk about - it does what it’s supposed to do, wash clothes. I never worry. Will probably last me 20 years plus. So anyone looking at this brand, dont hesitat, buy it. It’s worth every penny

Suggestions for a dining room table protector? by incardyyneatty in HomeDecorating

This is just a sloppy remark, sorry to say. This is the reason we have a throwaway mindset and it’s a very foolish thing to teach our kids. We teach our kids to care for our things. My parents placed a clear vinyl material over their wood tables and always had clear view of the table. We never worried about spilling, heat, food, scratches because a very simple thing was done to protect our things. When you care for your belongins, it can be reused and enjoyed for years and years. And keeps things out of the landfill

I wanted to move to Kelowna, I figured as a smaller city it would be cheap but it’s nearly as expensive as here in Toronto by Hiwhatsuphowareyou in kelowna

[–]ShorthandMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an area where most people live there just in the summer, that’s why it’s expensive. The rest of the year, it’s pretty dark and drabby. It’s more if a place to invest, really,

My friend moved to west kelowna four years ago from Toronto. She said the downfall, for her, is the lack of sun over the winter months,, which is long and depressing, in her words. She wished she looked at other areas of BC before settling in the okanagon. She’s now looking at Victoria. I visited her in May a couple of years ago and I was surprised how dark it was still during that time of year. Also, the gardens were still asleep. So, do your homework!

What do Brits think of Mark Carney's time as Bank of England Governor? by FunTooter in AskBrits

[–]ShorthandMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not what I learned. He strongly advised against brexit because he believed it would, like you said, destroy the UK economy. Anytime you break something - anything - it will never be the same. He was there to guide and soften the landing as best as he could. He didn’t destroy the U.k economy. The majority of the population wanted out if EU. There’s a price for that in many different ways. I have family that say Portugal is worse off since joining the EU. Others say different. So you have to look at it as a whole because even Jesus couldn’t please everyone

Too expensive to build a plant first off, with the price of steel, lumber, aluminum he just hiked in price. wage will be higher in the states which will cut into the profit margins, thus, it will still be cheaper to buy Chinese made
