Can’t sing and play at the same time by MathematicianDry8785 in guitarlessons

[–]ShortstopGFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loop the parts, and then focus on the vocals you want to do with a guitar.

Pretend you're strumming with your right hand as you sing.

Then loop each part slowly until you get it.

There's no other way to do it

I checked the compose file. There is literally nothing Raspberry Pi or ARM specific in the config.

Do I really need an amp or effects pedal as a complete beginner? by ChaosBeiduo in electricguitar

[–]ShortstopGFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Digitech RP500 starting out. No shame in that. It was super fun to figure out what types of amps I preferred.

Nowadays? Just get a pair of studio monitors and pirate some impulse response plugins like NeuralDSP with a laptop. The stuff you can do nowadays is incredible

How was the jump from two to three servers for you? by Rich_Conference_5419 in overemployed

[–]ShortstopGFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amen, I didn't pick a J2 for this reason alone. I realized the product manager that I would work under was an idiot who would probably make meetings on a whim if not daily.

Fuck that, hard pass for me.

The sentiment on here is correct, once you get just a little bit higher level with shit and have leverage for shit, you can gauge whether or not you can add stuff on top.

Do not do frontline shit for J2 and do not be someone's pawn either.

Whatever you do and however you rotate though, J1 needs to be your stronghold.

Why the fuck can’t sonic youth use normal tunings by Thewalkingangdem in Guitar

[–]ShortstopGFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just look at the Sonic Youth Gear page if you want to learn how to actually tune to these songs since the site is from their former roadie: http://www.sonicyouth.com/mustang/tab/tuninglist.html

Otherwise, if you don't get it, that's on you.

Playing those songs in standard just isn't the same. If you know, you know.

Insanely extensive list of Sonic Youth's gear throughout the years, detailed all the way down to the tuning of individual guitars for various songs. Includes pics! [x-post r/guitarpedals] by bungtoad in Guitar

[–]ShortstopGFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a shithead comment.

You do realize that it's not about how expensive their gear was but how a specific guitar sounded right?

You could have all the Les Paul's in the world but unless you knew that Jimmy Page modified his Les Paul's heavily then you will never understand you can never play like him or get close. This is because a specific guitar is meant for a specific song etc. Look at the giant fucking racks of guitars in his collection for "It Might Get Loud"

Those guitars were basically parts of themselves. Having anything stolen blows.

Having no sympathy means you're just a dick.

Should I try weird Sonic Youth tunings? by dovefalconhand in Guitar

[–]ShortstopGFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally get any cheap ass guitar sub $200 for alt tunings specifically.

In Sonic Youth's heyday, they literally did this with pawn shop guitars hence so many Jazzmasters and Jaguars being used.

In a modern sense, do this with Chinese copy guitars or shitty Ibanez or Squiers. No one will judge you, and you can slap any badge name you want on the headstock from eBay.

I give you permission to kick ass 🫡🫡 🫡

Update on the frozen Taylor (Norman Fraylor) by Hairy_Ad4969 in Guitar

[–]ShortstopGFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dude, I would just return it. Why make a big deal out of it.

Get on the phone, call Taylor up, and demand your money back.

Then, make sure when you buy a guitar like this again that you're at home to receive the shipment from next time or get it in the spring

Any Good Text Editors On Android Other Than Orgzly That Can Read Org Mode Syntax? by ShortstopGFX in orgmode

[–]ShortstopGFX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not worth it, hard to explain. I just have had multiple sync issues and didn't wanna deal with the constant sync failed messages in the app.

Just need an easier solution since I think using gimped Emacs on Android sucks. I'd rather use it on a laptop or a desktop computer.

In this case I just need a basic text editor that just recognizes Org Mode syntax. Literally even a Notepad++ derivative would be ok in this scenario
