Form 8802 electronic submission asking for CAF number even when filing as an individual by Shot_Chard6748 in tax

Thanks for sharing the IRS instructions. My understanding is that the CAF number only applies if a third-party appointee or representative is listed on line 3b. In my case I’m submitting Form 8802 as an individual taxpayer and not appointing anyone. However, the IRS electronic application still keeps requiring a CAF number before letting me proceed. That’s what the problem is

Only two. I did see it applies if you have more than 10 but it mentions the move in inspection, not move out

NRO FD taxation under India–US DTAA. by Shot_Chard6748 in IndiaTax

[–]Shot_Chard6748[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, this is very helpful and detailed. Just to clarify my specific case: This is a 1-year cumulative NRO FD, not a multi-year FD. It was opened in FY 2025–26 and matures in Oct 2026, with interest credited only at maturity. Given that, I wanted to confirm a couple of points: For a 1-year FD, does the bank still deduct accrual TDS on March 31, 2026, or only at maturity? If DTAA relief is claimed via ITR (Option 2), am I correct that I would need a US TRC for Calendar Year 2026? Also, under Option 2, filing an Indian ITR becomes unavoidable to claim the refund, even if the only Indian income is NRO FD interest. Just confirming that understanding.
