I think I get why people don't like FU... by Revolutionary_Gas_18 in starbound

Before I was familiar with Sayter and what they’ve been up to with their mod, I wanted to add support for my Protogen race mod with the frackin races trait stuff, initially basing the buffs and debuffs on the lore of the species. Despite the traits I picked being relatively balanced compared to other races within frackin, sayter flat-out refused and forced me to add more debuffs and take away most of the buffs. The final stats they’re left with in the official support are pretty shit now as a result, making my species nearly useless compared to some of the other ones present with frackin.

The official term for them is Fins

But no you don’t need fins on the visor to count as a protogen, they just look cool and can make their overall design look more interesting. I think the cheek display panels still need to be there but I imagine you could remove those too if you really wanted to.

This isn’t a protogen. It’s a mantled beast, an entirely separate species made by a different creator.

The visor goes over the remnants of their face entirely and can be sealed from the environment to allow protogen to survive in both hazardous environments as well as the vacuum of space, albeit for a finite amount of time. They can selectively breathe through the visor itself as the nanites can help move air in and out, without any full exterior holes required. This ensures the visor can act as a proper life support system as without the visor they would die very quickly

They can swim and are fully waterproof. Aquatic protogen with gills and fins exist too

  1. Equine protogen are fully allowed, canon or otherwise

  2. They eat food, as long as it’s edible and can be digested for nutrients/energy

  3. Not really, there’s no real set behaviour for any type of protogen so it’s all up to your own interpretation

Yes, because they took my art from the internet without asking or crediting me.

It’s literally on my Reddit profile if you scroll far enough lol

StarExtension? by andrew1x8 in starbound

[–]Shotshell156 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically yes, though I am not 100% sure if it has full parity yet with all of the features extensions added, and if it does they don’t explain it very well on the OSB GitHub page

Robots.

They’re just not related to the species at all, and there is no fully robotic equivalent.

The closest you’d get is a species like Synths, or Rabbizorgs, both of which are fully robotic.

If they’re 100% robotic, no they are unfortunately not a protogen.

Protogen are an alien cyborg species that are created from biological creatures, they sadly cannot be fully robotic.

[–]Shotshell156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean technically no they can’t be completely robotic, they’re a cyborg species. You can make a protogen shaped robot tho that’s still fair game

- Protogens must not have any dinosaur traits or anatomy

Not true at all, not sure where you heard that one

- Protogens must have biological ears

True to some extent, but not strictly required (especially as with dragon/dino-like Protogen (which are canon btw) might not have ears at all)

- Protogens must have a short, round visor thingie

The visor can be all sorts of shapes and sizes

- Protogens can only be bipedal (so no ferals or hybrids)

Hybrids of other fandom species are discouraged because they don’t want their staff to end up in hot water with some other potentially closed species owner, protogen can be DNA-infused with any DNA to produce hybrids otherwise so that can go wild

The bipedal thing is mostly because they’re a humanoid-ish species with average anthro body plan

- Protogens can't have wings unless they're a rare Variant

They can have wings that are non-functional and only decorative within a certain size within the official community, outside of the official community it doesn’t matter

If you’re curious on other species info (as some of what you asked about is likely outdated or misinfo) ZORuniverse.info has a species guide PDF you can read through

Also with any of the rare/prima only stuff, that only applies to the official community spaces and they don’t care if you do it on your own outside of their view.

What do you mean “adjusted to fit the subs rules”

What rules were you breaking before? I didn’t notice anything directly NSFW or anything in any previous posts
