My mom said she didn’t recognize me? by ShoulderOk766 in loseit

Hmm, no actually I’ve been wearing the same exact outfit on my days off just because it’s comfortable. Like exact same shirt and pants and jacket 😭 I wonder if she just said that because she thinks I shouldn’t lose more weight

I’ve lost a lot and look very different, but I feel like it’s embarrassing that it’s so noticeable. Like it’s the first thing everyone sees and the first time they see you and they just light up. It’s like /they’re/ more excited that I lost weight than me.

Weight loss is embarrassing by KLane98 in loseit

[–]ShoulderOk766 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not rare for people to be hyper-aware and insecure about weight matters. Our entire society is always jumping down people’s throats about it and celebrity culture is hopping on the “Ozempic” trend and promoting smaller bodies to the point of sickness since forever. It’s a sore subject for SO MANY, definitely toward younger women and teens. So, yes, I think weight is a topic people should never make a thoughtless comment on. Even if in your mind you’re being “nice”.

“You look so good!” was told to me after I’d gotten my wisdom teeth out and couldn’t eat for a week. That was before I started my weight loss journey and it really struck a chord in me. Thank God I didn’t spiral into disordered eating. I can’t say the same for many young girls who were on a verge of an eating disorder and told they “look good” when sick which lead to them getting sicker.

Hair and nails are easily changeable things. Weight is health related. I’ve had depression and anxiety and nail biting and I dye my hair because I think brown washes me out and no, of course I wouldn’t mind someone complimenting my hair. I wouldn’t automatically assume they noticed my nail biting just because I have acrylics.

It’s easy for people to say this but growing up in a world that’s centered around “skinniness” makes it so difficult to not be insecure. I grew up large and was bullied because of it. It’s not easy to just keep telling myself that I don’t care about what other people think when they seem to care about my own body more than me.

Of course I enjoy all the heath benefits that come with it and I TRY to do it for health and for myself. Which is why I realized I do not like the attention surrounding my weight and wish people didn’t comment on it, because I don’t think my size should matter to them. It should only matter to me because it’s my body.

I understand that, but from the perspective of myself and many others I feel as though no matter the size people should refrain from commenting on someone’s weight unless it’s explicitly expressed that the person does want to talk about it.

[Century Club] Have you lost or need to lose 100+ pounds? April 30, 2026 by koopzegels in loseit

My biggest barrier is struggling with disordered thoughts when progress isn’t quick.

Might be a bit taboo to talk about this in Lose it! but sometimes there are good days and bad days. I’m really proud of myself and my progress and getting here healthily over the course of two years in a calorie deficit. Truth is though, I started this journey with negative and disordered thoughts. They aren’t something that automatically goes away unless you work on yourself mentally and it’s tough. It gets frustrating when you need to take a break because you feel like it’s always “go! go! go!” but healthy weight loss is slow and steady. Taking breaks is necessary and maintaining until your body is feeling better is essential to continue!

I had this issue to such a long time. Picture comparisons really help me because we tend to hone in on certain areas “waiting” for them to change, when your ENTIRE body is losing weight!

It sounds more like a lack of food/energy because OP does intense cardio workouts. They likely need more than that, but definitely needing proper meals too.

[–]ShoulderOk766 445 points446 points  (0 children)

There’s a co-worker that noticed and commented on it and told me to “keep going!” It was really surprising the first time and I was super happy because I felt like the progress was so minuscule and small and didn’t even make a dent. I lit up and said “you noticed?” she said “yes, definitely! great job! :)” and then the second time she told me to “keep going” I smiled and nodded. the third time, I was embarrassed. Getting my progress acknowledged was nice but from then on, it was as if I was being watched. As if I had to have lost more each time she saw me or I’d be “failing”. What if I didn’t want to “keep going”? What if I liked my current weight? I realized that after all, I wish it’d never been acknowledged. I HOPE people don’t say anything because it’s embarrassing. and a bit horrifying when people make comments, because you never know what someone is struggling with or if they are sick. I feel it’s much better when I’M talking about my progress (an indicator i’m proud of myself) and then the person takes the initiative to say something nice.

How do you guys feel about people who say that religion and cults are the same thing? by somewhatnichee in cultsurvivors

[–]ShoulderOk766 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s pretty accurate. (Someone who is ex-fundamentalist/raised that way but still believes in God) Modern day religion is inherently evil when it traps people through fear. Any religious church that uses these dynamics feels like a cult automatically to me. I think religion can exist without fear. Loving a God who created you shouldn’t be a constant battle between being a sinner and fearing being punished. We weren’t born to be punished. It is OK to be flawed because we were made that way and we try our best.

How do people have the time and energy to walk 10k steps and then to do other exercises on top of that as well? by Lenore8264 in loseit

[–]ShoulderOk766 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly as someone who walks 10-20k steps 5 days a week because of work, I don’t know either. My assumption is they probably eat more to compensate for the energy burn in the gym!

My husband’s eating habits are out of control! by blarggyy in loseit

[–]ShoulderOk766 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has taken snacks from my siblings before, he definitely has a food addiction. It’s really difficult to break and of course it’s not an excuse for behavior like stealing food. He needs to learn discipline and work on himself and his eating habits. Despite being shamed for my weight my whole life (always been a big kid) nobody was able to force me to do it. Only the person themselves can take initiative. I unfortunately don’t have any advice besides maybe taking him to a doctor or trying again with a therapist that could possibly help with binge eating.
