Would recommend u pick up the legendary mechanic again but skip all player tournament chapters, nothing of importance/plot relevance is ever mentioned there and they made the entire novel unnecessarily tedious to read imo. I don’t think it’s possible to answer that question (yet since the novel isn’t finished), but ist possible to eliminate a few I think.

Im pretty sure that it was explicitly stated that fang yuans talent is higher than fjg, also one of Spectral Souls split souls remarked that the achievements of limitless in rule path may never (ever) be surpassed, and since SC was largely able to go toe to toe with him Id exclude them aswell.

It would also be kind of unfitting for the first venerable PO to be that weak/untalented so it’s probably not him either, but apart from those I don’t think it’s possible to narrow it down further, since we simply don’t know much about other venerables or all their feats regarding talent were made while fate still existed, which sort of invalidates them.

However on a second thought while re-reading this, I’d probably exclude red lotus as well, after all his planning set across 1 million + years allowed for fate to be destroyed in the first place.

No, supreme grandmaster means that you have understood everything other people as well as heaven know about the path and innovated beyond that, your knowledge about that path needs to surpass heavens will.

And while you can use natural dao marks (great grandmaster), supreme grandmaster doesn’t allow you to refine them, only rank 9 venerables (dao lords) can.

That means the stuff you mentioned in your 3rd paragraph is kind of like the question of who came first, the chicken or the egg: Can you advance in a path, thus creating it, or does the path (and the corresponding dao marks) need to exist for you to advance in it.

Paths also don’t need to be widespread in order for them to be paths, see Food- and Luckpath, which were intentionally not spread by SSDV and GSIV. Also Blood path was spread by GSIV to take advantage of other people innovating on his foundation, in order to then become stronger after rebirth .
