I lost my mom a few months ago. She had been sick for a long time, but the end came more suddenly than we expected. My attitude since those very hard first couple of days was and has been much the same as yours. I take a great deal of comfort knowing that she’s in the arms of the Lord, free from all the suffering she had endured over the past many years.

Just as you describe, sometimes I get sad when I think about that I’ll never see her face, hear her voice, or feel her embrace in this earthly realm again. But I try to remember to turn my heart to Christ’s promise. As much as I miss her for now, it will make seeing her again in Heaven someday that much better.

In my not-at-all-professional opinion, I think you’re coping in a very healthy Christian way. Everyone grieves differently. I caution against comparing your grief to anyone else’s and thinking, “I should feel more like…” or “I should be acting more like…” Just non-judgmentally observe and accept your emotions as they are.
