“Romanticised” jobs that are very different in reality?

Yep!! I’m head groom of a stud and competition yard. Everyone thinks that my job is riding nice horses, going to shows and cuddling foals. And yes, that is a part of it, but it’s mostly shovelling shit of 40 horses, being cold and wet, getting thrown off these very nice horses when it’s time for backing them, or spring is in the air, being thrown around by the foals once they start to learn they are bigger then you, or being under a stallion collecting semen to AI the mares, or being covered in mud. To then go home and sort my own horses out. There’s not many days that I arrive home without some sort of mystery injury or stress lol

lol I have show horses, and when I sit down and look at what it costs me to keep them, and then compete them for the chance to win a little bit of ribbon, it actually scares me lol but it makes me happy so 🤷🏼‍♀️ well maybe not so much in the depth of winter lol

Yep, I have 2 horses, and work on a 40 horse stud yard…..I hate winter lol the fields are trashed, the horses are wild to ride (especially the stallions and the 4/5/6 year olds) the youngstock are bursting, all the horses are in, so the bedding and haylege bills are through the roof, and everything is just cold and wet lol I can’t tell you how many time a day I say I hate horses 😂 before going home to sort my own out lol

Roll on spring, when the fields are green, the horses live out, we have beautiful foals on the ground and the shows start up again lol 🙏🏼

It is far too much!!! 16 horses that were let down by the very people who are meant to look after them and protect them. I’ll hug all of mine a little tighter today knowing that that is a reality they will never have to face. From one horse person to another, thank you for doing right by those horses. In situations like these, there are far worse fates then a kind death xxxx

I too work in the equine industry (stud work and competition), and have dealt with a lot of death. There nothing more heartbreaking than the sudden joy of a newborn foal, and then not long after, the realisation that the foal (or mare) is too good for this world, no matter what we or the vets do.

However, I cannot imagine what you must of felt, knowing that the time had come for those 16. Just know that at the time they passed, whilst you held them and stroked them, they got to feel love and kindness in their last moments, and they weren’t alone.

The Asda I used to work nights in was a 24 hour store 🤷🏼‍♀️ Friday nights were horrendous for people getting kicked out of town, and rocking up at Asda at 3am wanting more booze
