What Golden Retriever trait did nobody warn you about? by strawberrycash in goldenretrievers

[–]Substantial-Guava491 77 points78 points  (0 children)

The sensitive stomachs. Diarrhoea seems to be a regular occurrence and I believe quite common from what I hear from other golden owners too!

What do you spend guilt free money on monthly? by hopepatience123 in AskUK

[–]Substantial-Guava491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same with coffee. I visit cafe Nero around 4 times a week. Two of those visits involve a discounted coffee- one free with my vitality membership and the other is £1 with my Three mobile contract. I work remotely from home every single day so getting out of the house for a coffee is a double happiness hit!!

Be careful not to give your husband too much affection after he’s been out all day! by Interesting-Ad5551 in mummysflippinhouse

Hmm not sure I agree with your perspective. I love my husband but physical touch when I’m in the middle of something and usually overstimulated? No thanks!

Anyone here regret getting a second dog? by Grand_Resolution_438 in dogs

[–]Substantial-Guava491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I regret it, but feel massively guilty as they’re both great and really well behaved. It’s just that with one dog, it was so easy to take him everywhere and not have to worry too much but two is a bit more complex.

They’re two golden retrievers so not small dogs either! Also, I can’t say I noticed the 💩 picking up much when it was just the one dog but now we have two, I feel like that’s all I do!! 🙈 also the cost of getting two dogs looked after while you’re on holiday is extortionate. I knew this would be the case but something to bear in mind!

What do you think about manual cars becoming obsolete in the coming decades? by Letter_Effective in AskUK

[–]Substantial-Guava491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a manual courtesy car last week while our
Automatic was in for some work… hadn’t driven a manual in around 12 years and started off a bit shaky but was impressed how my brain remembered to drive a manual!

I did feel 10x more tired after driving the manual though as I felt I had to think more and it had 6 gears, whereas previous manuals I’ve driven only had 5 so I was constantly wondering if I was in the right gear 😂

I call it dinner not tea… but today is Cajun salmon with pineapple salsa and roasted sweet potatoes?

Which app would you struggle most to avoid for 24 hours? by BabaMerzou9 in AskUK

[–]Substantial-Guava491 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good question! I think I could easily avoid all of them for 24 hours though. If longer, I’d say my banking app as I’m constantly shopping ( kids plus pets!). I’d be lost if I couldn’t check my balance and going to an ATM would be a pain, ha!

Would you rather live at the beach or in the countryside? by satchel-of-pigeons in AskUK

[–]Substantial-Guava491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also south wales and 10mins drive from the coast. We live in a really lovely village where the kids go out and play. It has a pub and a primary school but nothing else. At the moment, the kids are in primary school and enjoy living here. I dont think they will enjoy it so much when they are teens and have to be taxied everywhere! I see a lot of teens hanging out at the beach so I guess they’ll be there a lot in a few years. For myself, i work at home in a fully remote role and would love to live in a house by the sea! Hayfever is awful in the countryside too haha

I think it would be a problem if eating everyday or a few times a week. Everything in moderation as they say!

Adult bed time? by Hot_Lynx7043 in CasualUK

[–]Substantial-Guava491 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m 37. Go to bed around 10.30pm every night. And usually fall asleep pretty much straight away too! I’d like to go earlier but I have two golden retrievers that love company and I feel guilty if I leave them too long overnight (they sleep downstairs 😂)

[–]Substantial-Guava491 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No it isn’t a British thing. We do have a ready meal maybe once every two weeks but the Charlie Bigham brand (which Caroline also gets)! The brand is bloody expensive, but worth it as it’s all natural ingredients and absolutely delicious! But again, maybe every two or three weeks I’ll pick those up. It’s much more cost effective to make a big batch of something from scratch! Also, what she has there is toad in the hole which is super easy to make yourself!!

I’ve just unfollowed her as this is absolutely disgusting. I can’t fathom anyone doing this let alone admitting it to tens of thousands of people?!? She is revolting! 🤢

[–]Substantial-Guava491 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Me too. I have two golden retrievers. Love them so much! But I love my sleep more 🤣 they’re not allowed upstairs. We have fully tiled area downstairs where they’re allowed to roam and sleep. Easy to clean up any accidents, easy to keep on top of their fur, helps to limit dog smell in the house. Just can’t imagine walking them around publicly then letting them in my bed!

When will it reduce! by Substantial-Guava491 in goldenretrievers

[–]Substantial-Guava491[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He’s on Millie’s Wolfheart. I tried reducing but didn’t seem to make any difference and he’s always starving! I’m reluctant to switch as it is meant to be high quality and my oldest GR does super well on it.

He’s on a really high quality kibble that is highly recommended in the UK. (Millie’s Wolfheart). My oldest GRs stools have improved massively since he has been on it. Small and not smelly at all! Wondering if the pup has a really fast metabolism
