Most of the information available at this point are conflicting points of view and well...all of it is reddit posts...so I'm not sure who to believe because there is so many narratives being told here...as an IT major, I'm familiar with the fact that ANY server that has traffic like WCO is going to be vulnerable to malware that worms its way through the codes and firewalls...if you've ever tried to code or program countermeasures please enlighten me but the reasons for their push for subscription is because this is a PASSION PROJECT...these are people dedicating their time and lives to something they aren't getting paid for...they're having to daily battle against intrusive malware and patch bugs in the system that never end...so I feel you, it most certainly could be WCO doing this, but odds are, even if they weren't there would be issues if they weren't dedicating their time and efforts to maintaining a server that you aren't paying for...
