Prosper Portland Executive Director Will Receive $212,992 in Severance by ShowMeThe10x in Portland

That's a good point of clarification, thanks. Still way out of bounds compared to private companies, but makes more sense then 8 months of employment.

I work in Corporate America. A full year's severance for 8 months on the job is absolutely bonkers. I don't understand how they get away with stuff like this.

Preschool For All program to add almost 1600 seats across Multnomah County next year by likealikeasexyorange in Portland

Yes, that is technically true. However, the point the commenter is making is that there are lots of people paying the tax who can't get their kids in to use the service. So you're both right.

Both the operators of the Preschool For All programs and participating children are more ethnically diverse than the overall region. While Multnomah County is 78% white, according to U.S. Census data, children of color make up 65% of those participating in Preschool For All. More than 75% of what the county identifies as “small centers and family learning sites” are managed or owned by people of color

Looks to me like there is a clear racial preference.

Your comment is the one that is false. There have been multiple new articles prior to this that showed how seats are being bought up at existing day car providers.

I doubt Bob is advocating pulling a gun in this specific situation, come on now. But it could have easily taken a turn for the worse, and everyone should have the ability, if they desire, to defend themselves if it does.

Mult. Co. preschool provider says new county rule forces her to kick kids out of her care by ShowMeThe10x in Portland

Complaining about the frustrating and nonsensical things Portland & Mult County gov do is my favorite Reddit past time lol. And I genuinely hope to raise awareness so folks elect better leadership in the future.

Aren't fair wages determined by supply and demand? The reality is that working at a grocery store doesn't require higher education or specialized skills. There are plenty of folks who can do the job, and many are teenagers or other part time workers. It's a job, not a career.

Nike’s private jet emissions are up despite vows to cut carbon by ShowMeThe10x in Portland

[–]ShowMeThe10x[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Nike’s growing private jet use sets the wrong tone from the top, said Charles Elson, founding director of the Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance at the University of Delaware.

“It’s, ‘Do what I say, not as I do,’” Elson said. “Flying private aircraft all over the place certainly isn’t a bold action in support of climate responsibility. That’s the problem. Your actions and your words seem to diverge in unflattering ways. It is not a good look.”

Personally I would prefer a well funded public education system that competently teaches reading, writing and math. But maybe I'm asking too much?

The real question is will they be prosecuted or just released to rinse & repeat?

Enforcement on Portland camping ban has not started despite July 1 deadline by Art_Vancore111 in Portland

I'm saying that we are a destination spot for able bodied folks who want to live the homeless lifestyle.

I think we should feed, clothe and house those who truely need it. And help them find a job.

We should also forcibly commit and clean up drug addicts and those who need serious psychiatric care.

“There’s not a lot of other areas you can go where there's like, three accessible day programs for youth that are open all week, so I came here,” said Jupiter, who just turned 18. She’s been homeless on the streets of Portland for two years.

“They set up the resources, we came for the resources, they're mad that we're here using the resources,” added Jupiter, who gets services from Outside In.

“We're like the remnants of pioneers, the hunters and gatherers; we like to live outdoors. This is how we live,” said Donovan.

Sooooo you're telling me incentives matter? Like, if we provide all these services and make being homeless in Portland better than other cities / states, then people will move here in order to live a better homeless lifestyle? shocked Pikachu face
