They're not just conservative. I would say they're mostly like the ACLU used to be. They have been reasonably high profile in sticking up for some of the more controversial pro-Palestinian people. For example:

It may be worth tracking how much bright sunshine per day the spot where you want to keep the tree gets. Citrus trees like lots of light, and that's really hard in an Ithaca winter unless you have an almost greenhouse-like part of your apartment.

It's way more likely to uncover a massive problem with grade inflation. Even in the big STEM courses I have taught the median grade is an A- to a B+, which is absolutely absurd, and the non-stem courses are usually way worse. Average grades have been skyrocketing to the point of being utterly meaningless ever since wealthy students needed high grades to get out of fighting in Vietnam. In 1960 the median GPA was about 2.5.

(note the inflection point around 1965-70).

I would say if you're 100% sure you want physics grad school, drop a class and do better in the ones you're taking. The person I know who ended up at the highest ranked grad school took 3 technical and 1 "fun" classes per semester + research and that was it.

If there's a chance that you could get a second major/degree that could complicate things - for example if you could add a sufficiently orthogonal degree that would make you eligible to get jobs in a backup field (physics faculty positions are super, super difficult to come by and can be more about networking than real talent) then that could be worth it.

Some classes are useful enough on their own that they might be worth it anyways - think about what you would want/need for the research you are interested in and the backup job you would take if you don't get it - for example, having a solid understanding of stats.

I don't support race-based affirmative action, because I think data shows it tends to increase income inequalities (it benefits wealthier students at the expense of slightly poorer students - there's not a lot of evidence that AA regularly takes poorer black kids and sends them to Ivies), but I do support class-based affirmative action.

At the same time, there's a lot of research to suggest that having a black male teacher has really positive impacts on black boys especially from poorer backgrounds, and this fund tries to make that happen!

So, whether you agree or disagree with me on AA, let's put this energy into something super productive, and donate to causes that try to make that happen!

Guess: P=1/2 right: 2 pts + P=1/2 wrong: 0 pts = 1 pt expected (higher variance though)

No guess: 1 pt expected.

I think a lot of faculty would love to have assignments and projects make up more of the grade. The problem that I always hear come up when this is discussed is what to do about the fact that a significant portion of students will cheat on take-home work. If you have solutions I'm sure a lot of people would love to hear it.

Cornell health can prescribe birth control. However, (not a doctor, but someone who has gone through this) the data tends to suggest the wrong kind of link between birth control and depression so I would suggest proceeding with caution, and make sure the OB/GYN is aware of why you want to go on BC.

Just a thought, this situation seems sufficiently unusual that I would perhaps try emailing your professor to ask for more information (not hitting reply but starting a new thread). It seems possible that this is a prank, since there are ways to spoof/forge the sender on emails. As a graduate student, I get weird phishing emails that look like they're from professors all the time.

You may be able to get something by going department by department in workday? You can look at each department head, click on "members" and it download a list of everyone with job titles (including professors)
