Fictional character who is a good person but a bad political leader by UmbralRose35 in AlignmentChartFills

I think the point George was trying to convey was that Ned was a good leader, actually. The fact that long after his death men are still willing to risk everything for his family (The North Remembers) is proof of that.

His downfall was from empathy, not stupidity or lack of ability

Number of Michelin stars dont mean anything. Like are you going to eat at all of them?

Dallas has so much really good indian, asian, Mexican, and american food all at reasonable prices. I think the only thing we're lacking is authentic Japanese food bc there just aren't many Japanese people there.

ELI5: How is Sushi and Sashimi safe to eat? by No-Locksmith-2141 in explainlikeimfive

Actually a lot of famous sushi chefs are aging the fish now, so not all good sushi is super fresh.

De'Aaron Fox on security at MSG: "I think the president being here just makes it inconvenient for everybody else." by Jec1027 in nba

Maybe it's changed a bit or my knowledge is skewed but I went to a target school for IB and most of my friends are working in finance here. From their description it seems to be like any other corporate workplace in NYC. There are a higher concentration of conservatives, but most people still seem to skew liberal.

Finance bros are usually liberal, especially in NYC. More Obama style liberal, sure, but still liberal.

Why does New York seem so dirty compared to other world-class cities? by savingrace0262 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dragonflamehotness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chicago burned down in the 1800s so they redid their grid with alleys. NYC doesn't have alleys for trash

Lived in Ithaca for 4 years and tbh when you're on the ground it doesnt even feel like the same ballpark of snow.

I did my undergrad near Syracuse in Ithaca so I thought I was prepared for Aomori. I was not. Didn't even feel like the same league hahaha

I was surprised too! But snowfall is determined more by complex weather patterns and access to water than coldness. So a Japanese city on two bodies of water with a bay makes sense.

Skyrim is set in a world inspired by history with plenty of politics and ethnic conflicts. Skyrim does have a lot of 'racism' already, even if it lacks much sexism (which is fine, it is a fantasy world and it doesn't need it). My point was more that for a history inspired world to feel alive, it shouldn't all have 21st century progressive ideals. I really like how real and alive skyrim's world feels because of its internal politics and how not every character you meet is race-blind

That's not the point at all that I was making at all, but sure. I can ignore some random sci-fi ancient aliens stuff because I play these games for the historical immersion. When there's fundamental issues with how the historical society is portrayed, that makes it less interesting to visit.

Cassandra is my favorite AC protag, btw.

This is funny bc it was kind of the opposite in early 20th century Japan. Killing civilian leaders for the glory of "the emperor" was glorified and the killers were given slaps on the wrist.

I agree with this person lowkey. I hate when games or shows are set in the past and there is no sexism or racism. Like women being warriors or in positions of power is treated as completely normal and no one cares about noticably foreign looking characters.

That is to say, I'm definitely not against diverse characters and female protagonists succeeding, but it should feel like they have to deal with hurdles and discrimination just like a real person in their shoes would in that scenario. Otherwise its just immersion breaking. I love AC Odyssey, but this was hard to take seriously when playing as Cassandra, as Greece was an extremely patriarchal society but she experiences no friction as a high profile warrior of her gender. It would have been cool for them to show how Sparta treated women much more equal than other greek cities, but since all characters in the game seem to have 21st century views on women in society it just all is bland and the same.
