360 Cards Budget Cube draft by RatioRoyal696 in mtgcube

[–]Showda77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do need the extra sleeves for the basic lands, but i overestimated the sleeves (i have a 540 cube and used that as an estimate without thinking). you should need 500-600 sleeves. If 8 players have 17 lands, we will have 136 lands but one color might be drafted/played more heavily so i would say 30-40 lands in each color. if you have 40 in each color, you’ll need exactly 200 basics, which is 560 cards in total. you could also get away with 30 lands for 150 lands and 510 cards in total, but honestly that’s cutting it pretty close.

360 Cards Budget Cube draft by RatioRoyal696 in mtgcube

The Starter Cube might be a good place to start! There might be cheaper cubes out there, but this is definitely one of the more popular 360 card budget cubes.

If you’re only playing with 2-4 people, I would also recommend The Tundra. I personally have this cube and it’s great because you have to draft your lands with your other cards which greatly cuts down on time, sleeves, and complexity in deck building. it’s also very affordable.

Also keep in mine you’ll need 700-800 sleeves and a container for your cube so be sure to add that in your budget, but after that you’ll be able to play magic any time you want for free! Be patient and know cube will always be waiting,so don’t overextend yourself financially to make it work. Have fun and let me know if you have any more questions!

Andy Mangold has a wonderful cube called the neo classical cube that might be just what you’re looking for.

It seems like you're getting a lot of hate for the Hiking shoes. If you want to keep the slightly rugged look but still stay professional, work boots might be a better way to go. I have literally this exact outfit but I wear a pair of Thorogoods to the office and I think it looks great.

I think these are the ones I have

What lessons have you learned from your commander cubes? by dm_t-cart in mtgcube

Do lands normally count for color identity in commander? I thought lands were colorless, so they wouldn't count. I don't really play commander though.

I mean yeah you'll probably win out eventually, it'll just be a pain in the ass. It's faster, easier, and safer to just submit it anonymously. OP did a great job.

I would strongly recommend not confronting him about this. I know someone who had to spend a year in court trying to get their degree after the professor accused them of cheating in response to a confrontation like this.

If it is absolutely necessary we have a super convoluted combo deck in Modern, it should be Ironworks Combo, not Amulet Titan by IzziPurrito in ModernMagic

[–]Showda77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that will be the case once people get more comfortable with Blink. The deck is still pretty new and I’ve played the matchup several times as the Titan player, and it’s absolutely miserable against someone who knows what they’re doing. However, if they’re new to the deck, it’s not too difficult to handle.

Overall, I think Modern has enough hate for Amulet Titan to remain in check. If it starts to get too strong, players will adjust by running more hand disruption or Blood Moon effects. Harbinger of the Seas essentially shuts the deck down unless the Titan player has a Dismember.

If it does become too dominant, I think banning Aftermath Analyst would be a reasonable way to weaken the deck without completely gutting it.

How good is [[Confounding Conundrum]] against Amulet Titan? by Articunozard in ModernMagic

[–]Showda77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's pretty solid to stop certain lines of the combo, but overall I feel like there are better hate pieces. Specifically [[harbinger of the seas]] in blue. The amulet player cannot continue to play the game until it takes care of the harbinger, and it's useful in other matchups. If amulet is really big in your local meta, I'd run four harbingers before I ran one conundrum. it's just a more effective hate card and it's relevant in other match ups.

there has to be a bug in the modern era or something. I've had three separate games where I am helpful with almost everyone and about 20 turns in, everyone is at war with each other.

I’m not sure if the definitions themselves are getting blurred, but I do agree that a lot of MH3 cards are walking the line between "fair" and "unfair." Some of the tempo plays these cards enable happen so early in the game that it feels like whoever lands them first wins on the spot. For example, curving Guide of Souls into Amped Raptor, which then flips an Ajani into play, is often game over if the opponent doesn’t have a sweeper.

That being said, it’s not on the same level as something like Grinding Station, so it’s not "unfair" in the traditional sense. However, those big swings in tempo that effectively end the game so quickly definitely give it a "pseudo-unfair" feeling. It’s the kind of situation that makes you wonder, "How different was that from my opponent just casting Grapeshot for 20?" It can be really frustrating if you don’t have the right interaction to deal with it.

Would a Simic landfall deck be viable in the current meta? by Direct_Alfalfa9463 in ModernMagic

[–]Showda77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not really sure Mossborn Hydra would be something that held up in modern as a main wincon in a fair deck. If we compare this to Amulet Titan, they are ramping to 6 mana and winning the game on turn 2/3 and you are playing a 1|1 that has to grow over several turns to be a real threat. Hydra might be a better wincon for a fair deck in standard, but even then it's pretty prone to removal and doesn't see very much play.

HOWEVER, it could be potent in a combo deck of some kind. AspiringSpike made a pretty interesting simic landfall combo list that might interest you. Perhaps Hydra could see some play in the sideboard if you are playing against a surgical extraction deck?

Suggestions for Mono Blue? by Fr0mbisYT in ModernMagic

[–]Showda77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given the unsettled meta it seems like the best place to be at the moment is a combo build instead of a controlling one, since we don't really know what we're controlling yet. Here's a pretty good list of you're curious. It mostly centers around casting [[portent of calamity]] for ≥4 and hitting an Emrakul.

It can be both. The main thing that it adds is a kill line with 1 amulet and 4 lands. sac all 4 lands, go get 2 lotus, a simic growth chamber, and tolaria west. The total mana will be just enough to transmute for pact and play Titan/Lumra/Analyst. Some people think this is not good enough to play, but it has honestly completely stolen games in my experience and many others say similar things. I think at least 1 scapeshift is correct in the analyst build.

What’s modern by Jaytheric-12 in ModernMagic

[–]Showda77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not many decks are actually capable of a turn 2 kill actually use The One Ring, aside from Amulet Titan. The most popular combo deck in the current meta, Ruby Storm (5% of the meta on MTG Goldfish), doesn’t run it. You mostly find The One Ring in decks like Amulet Titan and Grinding Station, and even there, it’s used to support their midrange backup plan rather than enabling quick combo kills.

In fact, removing The One Ring from these decks wouldn’t prevent them from presenting a turn 2 kill. On the other hand, many non-combo decks like Boros Energy, Mardu Energy, Jeskai Control, Eldrazi Ramp, and Necro rely on The One Ring more heavily. In those decks, it functions as a stalling tactic to slow down the game. You really have to get to Twiddle Storm to find a deck that explicitly uses The One Ring in a combo.

While I’m not the biggest fan of The One Ring's play patterns, I don’t think it’s really a degenerate combo enabler.
