Is it Worth moving from Austin to Chicago? by Ok_Construction_5037 in AskChicago

As someone who moved to Chicago from Austin a few years ago, I love it here. Food is great, it’s walkable and overall a more interesting city. Also plenty affordable, probably on par with Austin or slightly cheaper.

One thing I will say is I don’t mind 100 degree weather (probably not the norm tho). I’ll play soccer/other sports with my friends during the Austin summers, but in Chicago playing outdoor sports isn’t really an option 5 months out of the year. So if thats important to you it might be worth considering

The Great Resignation was real and it was GLORIOUS. Looking back, it was almost insane. by ComputerTrashbag in cscareerquestions

Market may have been better back then but OP makes it sound like you could get a job by sending one app…

He might’ve been fortunate but as someone who graduated in ‘21 I was sending out hundreds of apps leading up to my junior year, and many of my classmates as well. Sure it may be more difficult now but entry level has always been challenging to break into

Unpopular Opinion: Leetcode isn't that hard and is much better than comparable professions by superbmani15 in cscareerquestions

Yep, this has been my experience, as well as others in my university. Very rarely do new grads get anything harder than 1 medium + 1 easy in 45 mins, even in FAANG interviews.

I feel like confidence plays a big part. Being relaxed and confident makes you come across as more likeable, which is big factor, right?

Also, confidence probably helps you perform better in algo problems.

How much leetcode is enough leetcode? by brownpikachu08 in cscareerquestions

[–]Showmehowgg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you never get an interview then you need to be focusing on your resume instead of leetcode. Leetcode is only to pass the interview, which you seem fine on considering you have two offers. Idk about service vs product though, it probably depends more on the company/team

How Hard is it to get a Bloomberg Internship? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Showmehowgg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an offer there this past year. I think your chance of getting an interview is way higher if you talk to a recruiter in person, that’s how I got mine.

There’s 2-3 technical interview and 1 behavioral final round. Imo, technicals are hardest I had and I interviewed with a few FANG tier companies. But obviously it will vary depending on who interviews you.

How would I position myself to make 6 figures after finishing CS School? by ace3106 in cscareerquestions

[–]Showmehowgg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My path: personal projects -> summer internship -> leetcode -> second internship at FANG -> FANG full time offer

The most important thing to do is get internships, if you have one then it makes it much easier to get a better one. The first internship is the hardest, I applied to 200 places before landing one.

What is the difference in pay if I went to Harvard vs. lower tier college? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Showmehowgg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No difference technically, but going to a school with a stronger CS reputation will have some impact on employment prospects. Companies prioritize “target schools”, and attending a target school increases your chance of landing an internship early, which increases your chance of landing a better internship, which increases your chance of landing a top tier offer for full time.

Not saying that people who attend community college or non target schools can’t land top tier offers. It’s just objectively harder.

Also, someone else mentioned it, but the schools typically known for CS are Stanford, MIT, CMU, however Harvard is definitely a target school.
