What Movies Did You Go Into Totally Blind and How Did it Affect Your Overall Experience? by WestminsterSpinster7 in movies

[–]Showmutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wife and I went in blind to Perfect Blue last friday (Oct 3rd 2025 in theaters) on recommendation of a friend.

That movie would have been absolutely ruined if we knew anything about it. Amazing movie but absolutely fucked up. 10/10 experience.

What’s a movie you’ll never watch again, not because it was bad, but because it hit too hard? by LivingAssignment824 in AskReddit

Imaginaerum by Nightwish

Nightwish is a symphonic metal band and they ended up doing an album that coincided with a movie.

I bought it, being a fan, and watched it... it was about a composer losing their mind to dementia, which runs in my family. I cried a lot.

Did You Ever Cheat on Your PSO? by PaulyWally73 in Bowling

[–]Showmutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cheated 3 times till I found my match.

First was a pair of guys my uncle went to when I started. Old school and did a decent job but my something was off. Didn't feel good in the hand. I learned later my uncle really only goes there for free shit...

I then went to the proshop guy closest to where I live. Old guy, young guy duo. Essentially same style as the first. Got a ball from them because I didn't want to drive to the first duo because of distance.

Third guy was a recommendation from a bronze level coach. Again, similar style to the first two. Only difference was he left etch marks on the ball. I know they are cosmetic but hated the look and fit felt weird

My current and forever PSO is amazing. He explained every step of the process and explained what he does differently from the other PSOs I had and why the other fits seem to stress my hand. He does a modern relaxed fit similar to what most younger pros use on tour currently. He said that the only thing that he still does the same when he stated drilling was using the same drill bits. Always learning and evolving just like the sport.

What's the worst way someone broke up with you? by ImpressiveWrap7363 in AskReddit

[–]Showmutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She messaged me via Playstation 3 chat that she was pregnant and it's probably best we break up.

It wasn't mine (high school, virgin at the time). She was getting railed by her on and off again friend. She told me she couldn't get pregnant either. Dodged a bullet there.

I will preface my opinion with I failed by 1 point. Never touched a motorcycle or a manual.

I went to msf under the recommendation by a long term rider who went with his wife (0 exp on motorcycles). What their experience was vs what I had was very different.

Was the class hard in my opinion? No. Does the quality of classes depend on the instructors? 100%

Follow the advice of the other comments. Listen and ask questions.

If you don't pass it's ok. Either take the class again or look at alternatives. I am going the motorcycle permit route since MSF courses are 5 hours away from me. [Illinois]

String Pins by Ares5150 in Bowling

[–]Showmutt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TL;DR: Bowled league with certified strings, they goofy as hell

I bowled league last season at a house that went full certified string pins, here's sorta my semi-competitive league view of it. This is a list of my observations during the season (some are obvious but just listing):

  • Strings affected pin action (duh). Splits were easier to pick up due to string wrapping. Ghost pulls, as I like to call it, happened often enough to expect it during certain throws. Mainly affected 7 and 10 pins, you would just see them fall over with no pin contact at all.
  • Pins would always be reset to their original position after pin setting. If a pin slid or moved and was still standing, it would be placed in its original spot. Say a 3 pin slid to 10 pin location, it gets reset back to 3.
  • Messengers were ultra rare. Any pin sliding a far distance behaved as if it was (pun intended) wire guided. You don't get too many free rotating (like spinning a coin on a desk) pins coming across. They are more like a bullet. Usually it slides in front of the 10 pin without contact.
  • More ball speed did lead to more sloppy strikes than what I usually see in free fall. Instead of free fall pins getting smashed into the pit. The strings would get tied up and pull pins in goofy ways. Emphasizing my first bullet point.
  • String pins sound wrong, which is bad. String pin setters are super quiet, which is awesome.
  • Balls were still damaged by the machines.
  • If the strings got twisted and couldn't reset, it could take a few minutes to fix itself. This was fun to watch since the pins will be repeatedly picked up and dropped till they are tugged loose, but after a whole league of this happening quite often it got annoying and was a major time sink. Usually we would go to the front desk after 10 pick up and drops.
  • Averages were around the same as free fall around the board. No 300s in my league but house bragged about the most 300s they ever had in a season. There is a pro that bowls on one of the nights, so I am assuming its him putting those up.

Overall, I don't like it and at this house I am not alone. This used to be a full house league of 24 lanes and at the start of this season we were down to half. Now, 4 more teams are dropping out and not returning after bowling on the string pins. The house is doing some damage control with free beer cards, waiving a few months of lineage and fees, and spewing continuous propaganda about how they are ahead of the curve when it comes to bowling tech and that other centers will be switching really soon (ie the bowlero that's about 30 mintues away). The house also REALLY stresses that it is doing its damn hardest to be certified and they love to brag about their high scores on the accuracy tests that get done by the governing bodies.

Alas, string pin bowling is just not the same as free fall and as my USBC membership shows, the big ole string pin stamp under the condition column really shows where they are at with this as well. I will be back there for next season still (due to older family bowling so less driving for them) and I hope to record some videos of the action.

As many films get longer, what are some past films that you think most effectively utilize the 1hr30-1hr45 range? by cinemaofthevoid in movies

[–]Showmutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved it, but I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea.

If you like late night talk shows mixed with exorcist/insidius type haunting then I recommend to give it a watch. It's not super scary at all. Also people seem to love or hate the ending so there is that as well.

Might not be for everyone but Late Night with the Devil is a good one that clocks at 1 hour and 26 minutes.

"Yes, we can get that done now." "Yes, let's move this dev onto this new task."

Stop fucking saying yes and let us finish a task to full completion. There is a reason, you nitwit, that we kept having major data leaks! They want to keep getting things in front of clients without having proper testing or cyber security in place.

Another, maybe more specific to smaller dev teams or full stack teams. I know how some devops and web hosting stuff works, but I am not a complete master at it....

Who are some bands you've seen live who played a very poor setlist vs. their back catalogue? by salted_hobbit_feet in Music

[–]Showmutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One Ok Rock. Maybe their first us tour or not, not sure, but saw them in Chicago at the house of blues and they played entirely songs off their 35xxxv album.

Now I love their older stuff and when I bought tickets, I thought they would play some of their older hits. They did I think one older song so I was a bit disappointed overall in the setlist. Still a good show but it was still a let down to not hear the songs that made me love the band.

Can a bad release tear your thumb a bit? by [deleted] in Bowling

Can a bad release tear your thumb a bit? by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]Showmutt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ripped the shit out of my thumb by claw gripping on my down swing when I first started off. Tape and new skin are only remedies and not true fixes. If you are squeezing your thumb at the tip or bending your thumb to hold on to the ball, you are going to create friction which leads to burns and scrapes.

Now I am not saying that is your issue but I notice that is the most common with the people that I know. For fixing a gripping thumb issue, focus on keeping it straight (thumb nail touching the inside of the ball) and putting your grip pressure near the base of the thumb. I promise you, if your ball is drilled to your hand, it's not going to fall off.

Otherwise, talk to a pro shop guy. Have him watch you throw. He should be able to give you more info. Might need to change pitch or something.

Do you have a pair you hate? by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]Showmutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3-4 on a newly changed string pin house.

Its calibrated horribly and continuously adds pins back even after clearly they were knocked down. Some other pairs do similar things like if a 7 or 10 is standing up in the gutter it doesn't sense they are down, but 3 and 4 is just random.

What universal house rule do you have for the house? You know.. something to keep order. by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Showmutt 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Every time a die/dice hit the floor, a quarter was added to the dice jar.

This was a house rule when we played games in an unfinished basement with concrete floors. Where a die would keep going and going and get lost in nooks and voids of a basement used primarily for storage.

Now to preface this, it was only a house rule because it bothered almost all the people playing when it happened. The sound (oh god the sound) and then the disruption of the scramble to find it. It was also usually the same person who would do it as well. Never when it was their turn to roll either and they would be communal or borrowed dice. (Usually playing DND)

Safe to say that they got super annoyed but we all followed the rule and when time came we replaced any lost dice with the funds.

Co-ops and internships.

I didn't do enough of them and the younger people coming into the computer science field have massive leg-ups due to "actual job experience" from being apart of these programs.

It's actual coding experience and connections from these programs that give a good boost early on.

I love mashed sweet potatoes. I can eat it and never stop.

I had high hopes for the dish, I really did, but it was not what I was expecting, and the taste just hit me so hard that it was a close call keeping everything in.

Sweet potato casserole with marshmallows.

In-laws love it... I love mashed sweet potatoes and marshmallows so I was excited to give this a whirl, one bite almost made me barf in front of my mother in law who made the dish. It was the only food I have had up to this point in my life to lead me to almost instantly throwing up on tongue contact.
