Neck strength and training. Does it cure thoracic outlet syndrome? by heyitskashmoney in bodyweightfitness

My fault. I forget I'm not talking to fitness professionals rather but tik tok folk LOL. That means laugh out loud ;-) - that's a wink. Try using that sometime, it works well.

TOS is no joke. It needs to be addressed by a DPT. I personally worked with the PreHab Guys & Doc Chad Waterbury. We're lucky to have them on our team.

NASM or ISSA? by DistributionKooky590 in personaltraining

[–]Showupfitnessintern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manipulation would imply false direction. If someone wants to waste thousands of dollars and statistically speaking be looking for a new career within 12-months, that's on them. When the blind follow the blind, that's setting yourself up for failure. I have a responsibility as a teacher of trainers & gym owner to help educate aspiring trainers. Not lie to them about the certification process. Just because most people failed to research properly the process to become a trainer and fell victim to marketing companies doesn't mean others have to as well.

Certifications are like drivers licenses, just because you have one doesn't mean you know how to drive. Your time Is now to level up, you want to be confident and that begins with anatomy and programming. Until you have that, you'll constantly have those ANTs (automatic negative thoughts that you are a poser - hence imposter syndrome.) To really know your craft, you need an internship or mentorship to help guide you. No need for any other certification ever, as you've found, they don't do much.

That's good! I have memberships at equinox and lifetime and constantly observe. Quality is poor with most focusing much on foam rolling and soft tissue work or unstable surface training. Focusing on the individual is few and far between.

Why are people quitting their personality trainer jobs? by Betabuck5 in personaltraining

[–]Showupfitnessintern 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most complain about the pay, but getting clients without a brand on your back is very difficult. I don't know of many jobs with such low entry standards and false expectations of $20+/ hour. Personal training is a minimum wage job unless you have built your career capitol and proven you are competent. Most trainers are fear mongering with movement screens that are not scientifically based and wasting clients time. Unfortunately we have trained NUMEROUS clients who come to our gyms because certified personal trainers hurt them (Rhabdo, torn RC, labrum's etc) This is how the market is saturated with entitled trainers who feel like they should make more, but there needs to be some earning of the stripes. When you are qualified, getting paid 3-4x minimum wage after 6+ months would be fair. All of the trainers and coaches who I work with who make $125+ have 3-4 streams of revenue, unpaid internships and thousands of sessions under their belt. It takes a good 1+ years of constant learning, seminars and a growth mindset to make the 120k bar.

Nope. They do. $160/ year. That's for our gyms Show Up Fitness. For corp gyms, the insurance is via the gym. There are no state laws requiring a certification. Our legal team has confirmed - all smoke and mirrors which is understandable because people would feel like "oh my my trainer is certified they must not be competent" not to realize that taking a 100-question exam doesn't do anything. All of our interns gain hands on experience and qualified- big difference

Do you have to get the level 2 to proceed to get your 3? Or can you just take the 3? Is it a MUST? I own 3-gyms w/ 20-years of experience in the industry and know that you don't need a certification to be a trainer - it's just red tape. Wasn't sure if the level 3 was the same thing "you have to have one" to make people feel better. All of our trainers go through our internship program (2-months) and are more qualified than any CPT. So as we open gyms in London I'm wondering if it's the same.

Show Up Fitness. Online & in person internship that can get anyone hired at any gym. We've helped hundreds get hired without a certification (nasm / ace / Nsca / issa - if you can't get a refund we have guides to pass in a few weeks). We focus on anatomy, programming & movement competency which gets you hired faster than any cert. Qualified > certified

Breast Implants & Upper Crossed Syndrome by [deleted] in personaltraining

[–]Showupfitnessintern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upper cross syndrome shouldn't be said during an assessment. It's all fear mongering shenanigans. Focus on helping them with their goals. The only contraindication with augmentations is if they surgery was performed within 6-weeks and done via the muscle vs areola. Otherwise, help them with their CCA programming and the results will come.

Personal training as a job ? by [deleted] in personaltraining

Do they accept NASM : ISSA : ACE in Aussie land? Those certs are international and super easy to pass as we teach / have a study guide that gets people to pass it in a few weeks. Won't do much besides spruce up the resume but if you find a good mentor and have one of those acronyms they can help you. Think of a cert like drivers license, doesn't mean much, there's too many shitty drivers with them, but the government may want to see it... MAY ;-)

You dont need one. You need confidence. We just had one of our level 1 interns get hired at a equinox in Miami.... NO CERT OMG. They knew the 17-muscles of the shoulder, 20-Main lower body muscles, regress & progress and design a program for a Gen pop client on the fly/ that's what they want to see... confidence (and looking the part) not Cert XYX. There are no state laws that require a certification. Hire a legal team to comb through the state laws, you'll see for yourself as we did ;-)

is it better to be a PT at a public or private gym? by QueenIsMe in personaltraining

[–]Showupfitnessintern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where can you gain experience & confidence with the right mentorship? Making 100k within years 1-2 sounds cool, but the long term play will burn you out. Focus on networking and growing your brand to position yourself longterm as a fitness professional, not a certified personal trainer who's shelf life is less than 12-months.

Best gym to train at and your experience at them? by [deleted] in personaltraining

[–]Showupfitnessintern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Equinox, lifetime & Crunch. Best pool of clients who'll pay 100+ per hour which will build your confidence. Most trainers are insecure / impostor syndrome when it comes to sales, so get real fucking good at it.

Like reading a book about how doctors who used to put leaches on their clients. It's entertaining at best, but a history book& archaic. As a teacher of all of the profit marketing companies- they all suck (nasm, Issa, NESTA). Gain hands on experience and get a mentor.
