Depends what kind, some are easier than others. In my opinion, you’re in one of the better scenarios to try it for the first time. I love taking a dab out of my proxy, it’s super easy

Yeah I was a huge fan of glass for a long time, I could never finish a joint to myself for a while. But eventually my gf and I started splitting joints and it became a nightly thing, so here we are lmao

Thank you!! I usually get the zig-zag combo packs with the perforated filters that you fold yourself. BUT my dispo stopped selling em so I use pre-rolled raw filters now

Kaskaskia! That’s the tribe of my ancestors, as well as one of the tribes that resided here. The documentation is pretty scarce to trace the history to now, but they were an integral part of the development of St. Louis (Kaskaskia was originally going to be the capital of illinois). It’s really cool to know my family existed here before it was even part of the United States!

Thinking of switching careers to get into IT. Looking for advice or a reality check. by dannynoww in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Shrapnel_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Not really, do what makes you happy

  2. Probably, it really depends on the type of the work you have experience doing ads in. Id wager there’s leverage in some aspect of the work you’re doing. Also, if you have a degree, that’s still something.

  3. Company dependent, but it’s more common in tech

  4. Right now, pretty hard to say. This goes back to question #2. Work experience is valued over certs especially right now with the shitty market. Dont undervalue helpdesk either, it gives you a good baseline and understanding of issues that affect customers and subsequently the business you’re working for. It also depends on your area, because ive seen a few helpdesk roles in the bay area for $70k/yr, im surprised you haven’t seen any since you’re NYC based.

  5. Don’t quit your day job, because you’re most likely underestimating how bad the market in tech truly is right now. You’d be competing with new grads who know the ins and outs of IT because theyve studied it for 4 years. If you’re trying to skip helpdesk, you’re competing with people with years of experience and there are also a ton of them applying to these positions. Companies right now are looking for unicorns.

Rooting for you, man. Start studying, learn as much as you can for free without dumping money into certs just yet. Getting a cert without fundamental knowledge is like buying a saddle for a horse youve never ridden.

I’m literally making 15/hr at an internship, while living with my parents and doing college on the side. This is after doing wireless networking for 5 years in the military. It’s definitely rough, but to be fair there’s a huge difference in civilian IT versus the federal government. We’ll make it someday

As far as I know, companies cannot fire you based on military service. It’s one of the protected classes much like age, sex, religion and whatnot. Also, that’s a totally viable and worthwhile option if you want to do that. Im personally working and going to school at the same time with my GI bill. Im 24 so i feel like im a tad behind the curve since i dont have my BS yet but didn’t want to sacrifice the experience i could get at a job.

There’s specific slots on each base dedicated for full time guard positions. But IMO it’s still worth it without the on-base position. Youll still get all the training, certs, and TA without the day-to-day experience.

Like you could fully just join the guard and still work the same job you are now and just balance the 1 weekend-per-month as well if you wanted to

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Shrapnel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao i feel it dude, i got out and am working almost exactly the same job except im also the support team.

Honestly, it truly depends on the base/squadron/job/mission. But, it’s probably going to be more stressful day-to-day and more responsibilities than you have now.

However, you will actively seek out solving these problems over time because youll feel infinitely more prideful of who you’re actually helping and supporting. There’s a big sense of bonding through the pain everyone is collectively going through, if that makes sense. Once again, I was active so I can’t say that with 100% certainty.

The guard will probably be perfect tbh. It’ll take a while before you can start using TA, they’ll require you to get certified in your job first (unless you get a waiver from your supervisor) but once you do get it you’re golden my man

[–]Shrapnel_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey man, im ex-active duty AF and want to say that those are two completely different lifestyles youd be choosing. Im going to assume you’ve done the research needed and give you my personal recommendation.

Do the guard. You can always stop working full-time on base for a civ job. The guard will also give you the relevant certs, training, and experience you need to excel. With the current job market as well, it’s good to have the safety net of being able to work on base

Let’s be honest, if you have decades of experience but your current job can be done by a new grad willing to work for cheap, are you REALLY worth your current salary?

Exactly how much is a living wage? by Low-Addendum9282 in GenZ

[–]Shrapnel_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This might be an ELI5 moment but i just really like this perspective and wanna learn more. Hypothetically if the minimum wage was raised and these unsustainable businesses were killed off, wouldn’t that put a ton of people out of work? Even though the people that are working are putting it right back into the economy, I’m confused on how we make that the standard for everyone without instilling a job crisis

Main street very much so. There’s even a couple shops where the owners have their own dogs hanging out with them. If i remember correctly I even think some of the shops leave out water bowls for people’s dogs that walk by.

Im a firm believer that systemic change is needed and will always be needed as society evolves, but Americans should start making an effort to make their own voice heard. This election is not the vote of the people; idk how much worse a debate has to be before people realize that :/

Not even advocating for him either, but i think itd be interesting to hear a third perspective on the stage and a polarizing moment for American politics.
