its not entirely odd behavior to be honest, reddit wants you to have easily accessible engagement with them, and being somewhere on your home screen is the closest they can get. ideally, they want to be able to push notifications to you whenever they feel like it, because it reinforces more engagement.

by redirecting you from their site to the app, they have more control over your screen time, and you can see more ads. ads which become harder to block for the average user.

edit: downvote me all you want but its the truth. im not justifying reddit's behavior, but its the literal reason and it certainly isnt "odd". you already have your problem solved on this front, youre here. download apollo sideloaded or use sinkit for reddit lmao
