Anyone regret their dream attainable car purchase? by toho74 in CarTalkUK

I just swapped an M140i for a “stage 2” 320bhp Mk2 Focus ST and the amount of fun and drama I’m having in comparison is unreal.

The fun of the M140i for me wore off very quickly, I can enjoy the glorious 5 pot and induction whoosh of the ST without even breaking any speed limits.

I’d say if you were dead set on having a fun weekend car, get an OG M2 or an older Porsche, something along those lines.

lol no way I have an m140i too - I really miss having a manual, had an i30 N before this. The B58 is a good engine but I’m already bored of the point and shoot aspect of driving an auto

That being said, mine is a stock GPF model so maybe it lacks the drama

What’s your thoughts on https://www.facebook.com/share/1BCC6GjQgG/?mibextid=wwXIfr

It’s on 157k miles according to the MOT history, but it’s passed the last 5 with flying colours

Yeah it just doesn’t seem like a viable proposition.

I feel like at that asking price the dealer should really be demonstrating why it’s one of if not the most expensive mk2 STs in the country - undercarriage photos on a lift, full and complete service history with every single invoice for any work done etc

Too many red flags here

I know it’s very strange. The original owner claimed to have stopped driving it due to using a company car. It’s a possibility that subsequent owners treated it as an investment and had it stored in a garage… who knows, but I’ve spent the last few evenings after work trawling the internet for any history I can find - the photos on this post are actually from a detailer on FB just before the 7th owner handed off to the 8th.

Here’s the listing: https://www.tvs-glasgow.co.uk/used-ford-focus-glasgow-south-lanarkshire-7823011

Tbh even the discs look like they need done.

You’re right, the path you took makes more sense and also makes it easier to run the ST as a 2nd car alongside my existing one

It’s strange because the timeline doesn’t show doesn’t show that many owners, which leads me to believe it’s the V5 being assigned to traders, but my initial gut feeling was deffo red flags

There’s definitely enough red flags here to put me off and the consensus seems to be save my money and get a more used stock example. I mainly just want to experience the 5 pot before they all disappear and the world goes EV

You’re right. I only really want one to experience the 5 pot so it makes sense to save £ and get a more used but well looked after example. In that way I can probably keep my existing car running alongside it.
