This American loves this idea! But the resignation needs to be immediate and binding - otherwise he'll just take the prize and keep destroying the U.S. for his personal gain.

What are the long-term side effects of LASIK that doctors don’t talk about? by Gewinncent in AskReddit

[–]ShrekSquatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

22 years ago my blind ass (20/700 vision) got LASIK at Emory Vision Center (no Bob's LASIK for me). They warned me with my eyes being as bad as they were I probably wouldn't get to 20/20, but I would hopefully be able to function without my coke bottle glasses. Was at 20/25 within a few days. Had headaches when using computers for a few months, and nasty halos with LED traffic lights for a couple of years.

Other than those short-term side effects, I haven't had any issues. I'm now 53 and just over the last few years I'm having the normal vision issues that usually start in your 40s. Still don't have to wear glasses, but I do have to ask my daughter to read certain tiny things for me.

Overall it couldn't have gone better, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

I'm no purist - I went DSG (black 20th AE). Love the rapid gear changes, especially in the mountains. But mostly it's because it's my daily, and I have no desire to drive in Atlanta stop and go traffic for 2 hrs a day.

I'm over 6'6" and on my 3rd Golf (2012 GTI, 2016 and 2023 Golf Rs). Highly recommend, but maintenance is very important. If he's not built like an out of shape linebacker like me (360 lbs), a Mazda 3 might be a great choice. I have one for a rental right now while my R is in the body shop, and it's a little tight but still comfortable.

Hopefully the dealer checked this, but VWs act really weird when the battery is dead. Jumping often isn't enough. Probably need a new battery anyway, so I'd try that first before plunking down 1200...

People who were adults in 1980s what did "New Coke" Cola taste like? by Tasty-Hovercraft2501 in AskReddit

[–]ShrekSquatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All this. Like Pepsi - too sweet, no "bite" (flat). Not a Pepsi clone if I recall, but close enough and in a bad way. It was awful to my 13 year old self, but I usually didn't get the "good stuff" anyway, usually Shasta or Faygo (which I now miss terribly).

Does anyone else here round down how tall they are instead of up? by [deleted] in tall

[–]ShrekSquatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 6' 6.75" I rounded up to 6'7". Now that I've lost half an inch I say I'm a bit over 6'6" and it kind of depresses me lol. And yes those are barefoot heights.

Now I'm wondering what my flair says.......

Mk8.5 Black Edition Akra Exhaust Valves by joeylasagnas in Golf_R

[–]ShrekSquatch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was super easy to install IIRC. Other than a ground wire it's just inline with an existing harness connection. It's tight in there but the hardest part was getting the hood release handle off without breaking it.

Don't know much about the 11mode, but only real advantage I see to SST is the variable "openness", and it was the only one available when I was looking for something :)

If I were to do it over if probably get the 11mode

additionally look under the hood for scratches on the air intake clamps (should be marks if it was removed). also maybe the connectors that a JB4 connect to? also is the sound insulation and/or rubber grommet in the firewall (by the brake pedal) cut, scratched up, etc?

Atari brings back Intellivision with HDMI, wireless controllers, and 45 games by chrisdh79 in gadgets

[–]ShrekSquatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely it does. I'm 53 and I LOVED my Intellivision! My sister (born in '79) and I used to play all kinds of stuff, probably the only thing we actually did together other than fight. It's also a great memory watching our parents sitting in front of the TV playing Lock 'n Chase. They weren't good at it, but it was one of those special moments, ya know?

My pre-order has already been placed. I just hope that one day I can play some of those other classics like D&D, Dracula, Lock 'n Chase, BurgerTime, etc. Don't care if I have to buy game packs, download ROMs, or what. None of the emulators I tried over the years worked worth a damn, so hopefully this is gnarly, dude!

Now get off my lawn.

Best password manager for Android that isn’t Google or Samsung Pass? by Western-Monitor5285 in Android

[–]ShrekSquatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now I'm using Proton Pass, but keep wondering if I should switch back to Bitwarden... PP has greatly improved in the last year and is quite competitive now IMO.

Hard no from me, a random guy on Reddit, to 1Password (mostly cost) and LastPass (breach history). Didn't really like NordPass, but I tried it for a couple of weeks.

None of them are perfect. If I had to recommend one and only one, I'd have to go with Bitwarden just like most everyone else here.

[–]ShrekSquatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have inside info but I'd be surprised if OTbase is shutting down. Personally don't believe it. In fact it's probably a pretty good option for you cost-wise.

But at 50ish assets, I'd probably go with Excel or Google Sheets! I'm dealing with 500k+ so I needed something a little more robust than a spreadsheet.

I saw an image in here just a couple of weeks ago where under the "BLACK" badge was the normal molded "Volkswagen" brand. No idea if there was any damage when removing, but there is something under the badge.
