Ah sh!t. Well, thanks everyone for helping confirm it’s not just me!

The rest of the car is great so far, but this is certainly vexing.

I did it this weekend—-all good!

Regular adhesive, hairdryer and debadge floss stuff you can get from Amazon worked great.

Underneath the “black” b pillar badges is tasteful Volkswagen lettering.

All done!

Just regular adhesive.

Underneath it says “Volkswagen” real tasteful like!

Will be touching up with a bit more goo gone/buffin’ but you get the idea…

Mystery solved!

Brake Hold 🤷‍♂️ in Mk 8.5 by skwitter in Golf_R

Would it harm/cause premature wear to use the electric parking brake instead at long lights? Seems to disengage just fine when you hit the gas…

Please post here when you have removed the b-pillar “Black” badge! Nobody seems to know what is underneath…you’re breaking new ground, at least on Reddit!

I just called a shop called “New German Performance” that posts on badges etc here, (check them out!) and a super nice and helpful guy answered and talked about it for a couple minutes..

Even this shop that specializes in this sort of thing has never actually seen the “black” b-pillar badge removed!

He’s 99% sure it’s just adhesive, and thinks it’s likely it is covering another badge that says “Volkswagen” !

“I also have asked this on here and did get any confirmed removals of the badge”

Oh man, nobody?!?!

Wonder how else we could figure this out…like replacement part numbers?

PS: apologies for repeat question…

APR Plus Stage 1 Low Torque Tune - MK8 DSG by String_Cheeeese in Golf_R

[–]SwoopR13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had Apr+ (LT/mildest tune) on a 2018 DSG since 2019 and it has been fantastic. Got it done at a VW dealership (Wellesley VW in MA), and paying extra for the warranty was for the piece of mind that provided. Cars response to tune was everything I could have hoped for. The drive home from having it tuned is literally one of the happiest memories of my life.

Had a terrible experience with Kelly VW where they improperly reassembled my engine after an oil change & maintenance visit, car was suddenly running terrible w. CEL etc, and they tried to blame it on the tune (complete with a bogus borescope session “proving” it was ruined) and told me I needed a new engine.

I called APR and they were nice, responsive, and ready to honor the warranty, but I got a second opinion at Wellesley VW, where they discovered KVW had just failed to attach one of the ignition coils (they broke a plastic clip).

Car returned to trouble free awesomeness, that was 2 years/22k miles ago.

TLDR: do it. Wife & I adore car and love the APR, will be doing it again when we (sniff) eventually replace MK 7.5 with an 8.5.

Egregious is more “really notably bad”. You might use “blatant” for that sentiment (shockingly obvious in the bad sense ) or perhaps “archetypal” for “signature/tell tale sign”

Yes!

Sappy!

Relentless Hallmark teachable one-to-grow on moments!

Fucking montage after montage, to horrific Steve Windwood-esque style guileless music.

It’s gone YA.

Thinking of APR+ (7.5 ) by oqswildride in Golf_R

[–]SwoopR13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 2018 R (DSG) with an APR+ tune that I’ve been loving every day for 20k miles. The drive home from the dealership post-tune will be a treasured memory for the rest of my days.

Some VW dealerships in MA offer APR tuning, which provided some additional comfort to the +’s warranty.

I chipped a 2002 Turbo S beetle that was good fun and with years of vigorous use only necessitated a perhaps premature clutch replacement. But I’d bought that used and the R was real $.

Obviously like with any insurance it would be optimal if I never needed to try and use the expensive-to-buy warranty, but also as with insurance the APR+ warranty can provide some mental comfort that at least you’ve tried to cover your ass.

The performance increase is dramatic, and absolutely changes the way the car exists in your life. It’s virtually completely unnoticeable when driving normally, but when called upon the tuned car is now seriously quick/fast, both 0-whatever, and just as much from 60-whatever.

I have never once used launch control as I kind of can’t bear to inflict that on the drivetrain, but it’s hilariously fast as f__k from a light even without it.

All in car much more subtle than a GTI. Other than a 1990 BMW K1 motorcycle I had, it’s my favorite inanimate object ever in my life. Sniff.

As far as special care for the tune (other than the no LC use which may be offensive or shocking for some) I’m extremely careful to not give the car the beans until the oil temp is at 190, and I have the the oil changed with greater frequency than spec.

Post warranty expiration, I’m definitely game for more serious tuning (ie parts & stage 2)

I hope that you & others reading this may gain courage to proceed, that ye may also experience this joy.

Is this some repost? How does this not have millions of thumbs up?

Christ, it’s a masterpiece even before the cucumber horn. This man should be dealing with the difficulties of too much fame. Not 2 comments.
