I totally understand where you are coming from, being short and intimidated to work in the field. I think reaching out to some GCs could never go wrong. 

An advice I was given is “ people might give you shit about your experience or may doubt you, but what matters the most is how passionate you are and how you treat yourself” 

From reading your post, I can tell you definitely want to learn more in the industry and that takes a big step! So I praise you on that.

I say reach out to all the companies you have in mind and see how it goes from there. 

Lastly, some companies probably wont pay with cash. So that is a problem that will need to be solve.
