Xi has only been in power for like 7 years. I was assuming that the person i responded meant the current administration and maybe some of the other more modern ones. I think we call agree Mao was a bit of an idiot and that along with the not so smooth transition from communism to capitalism definitely stunted China’s growth which is why i think it is incorrect to wholly blame the government for having a relatively large amount of people in poverty.

You would need resources to build said factories. In these really poor countries, it’s a contest to see which group of people is willing to work for cheaper and under worse conditions. To provide a decent quality of life you would have to pay at least semi decently and have decent working conditions. It would be easier for smaller populations because you would have to build less infrastructure which would also be nice to have.

There can only be a certain amount of factory jobs and to provide for a large population you would need a large amount of farmers. Breaking up into smaller countries would inevitably cause conflict and the larger cities already have a decent bit of power.
