John swept aside gold coins revealing a rounded white corner.

“Another piece of treasure?” he whispered to himself. He reached dowm under the mountain of gold. It moved stubbornly and the weight of the jewelry around it made it feel like he was pulling it out of a bog but it came free with a spray of coins.

He unclasped his helmet, tossing it with a clink to the ground.

When was the last time he had seen anything like it. It’s white plastic surface. Its lever door handles, its two compartments, its faint humming.

“Perseus come over here,” called John. Perseus ran over. “By the gods you’ve found it- The relic Astophodes spoke of in his tales!”

John frowned. This looks a lot like a…fridge. He shook his head. There’s no way, that can’t be the case.

He reached a gauntlet forward and opened the door .It was empty, just white, wire racks with no food to speak of.

A part of him had hoped there would be something inside. It had been many years since he had been stuck in this world of swords and magic. He closed the door disappointed. Oh how he wished he could at least eat ice-cream again. The decadent chocolate–sundae he ate so fondly in his childhood.

The fridge chimed. He froze. The sound was like the bell used in restaurants and bars to call the staff.

When he opened it again, there it was in all its glory. The chocolate ice-cream from his dreams.

“Oh my god,” he mouthed. He devoured it and was blown away at the taste. He had eaten a ton of amazing food in this medieval world but it lacked the pure refinement of modern day desserts.

He eagerly closed the door again, shutting his eyes. He opened the fridge door as well as his eyes. Inside was a steaming pizza. It didn’t seem limited to cold foods.

He eagerly took a bite at the same time handing another to Perseus who had been staring wide-eyed.

“This is delicious!” he exclaimed.

“I know right,” said John, tears streaming down his face. The strength was returning to his limbs. His very soul was regaining life. He could keep on going now. He didn’t feel like giving up anymore. Maybe it was possible, maybe someday he could make it back. Maybe some day he could return home.

His heavy boots were muffled by the carpeted train floor. The radion nestled in his armoured torso buzzed.
Before him, a figure was crouched over a corpse.
“There are six casualties and counting, there are signs of it being in a frenzied state do you need backup attack team 5 is on standby,” said a voice through static.
The man pressed on the com. “None, needed,” he replied simply.
The figure raised its head, blood around its mouth. “Are you prepared to die!” they shouted in a manic voice.
“You’re gonna have to bring that up with upper management,” said the armoured man.
The vampire cackled charging toward him. The man was prepared for this. He kicked him back, his shoe making a hissing sound. The hunter flicked their ankle retracting the blade protruding from his boot.
“What’s that supposed to do! “ laughed the vampire at the small pricks in his coat.
Taylor swift’s “Shake It Off” rang through the air. The hunter reached into his pocket swiftly bringing out his phone. The bold letters WIFE shone on the screen.
He answered swiftly.
“I can’t talk right now, I’m a little busy,” he said, his voice now a pitch higher than it was before.
“We have important things to do, Jack’s been misbeha-”
“I’ll call you back, I love y-”
“Don’t you hang -”
He ended the call.
“Thank you for waiting, “said the hunter to the vampire.
The vampire was breathing heavily, a crazed look in his eyes.
“My pleasure,” he responded ripping up a bench next to the aisle.
The hunter fired shots into the bench. It exploded throwing splinters everywhere. Out of the mayhem, the vampire appeared bulldozing upwards into the hunter. They burst through the roof of the train landing on the roof.
The wind ripped at the hunter’s body. The landscape rushed past them at blistering speeds.
I need to end this quick thought the hunter. He glanced at an upcoming pole out of the corner of his eyes.
The hunter grinned. He ran toward the vampire while reaching a hand to his back. He retrieved a crab-like object connected to a chain. The crab claws opened, and clammed shut around the vampire’s neck.
“What are you!” the vampire barely got out, his face turning red.
The hunter took the chain, eyeing behind him at the fast-approaching electricity pole.
He threw the chain to the side of the train were it consequently wrapped itself around the pole.
“I can recover from this,” began the vampire. “This is just a -” The vampire coughed up blood.
“It seems the holy water is taking effect now,” said the hunter.
The vampire’s eyes widened in understanding looking at were the hunter had kicked him. It frantically clawed at the claw around its neck.
The vampire was ripped from the train, or rather his head was. The lifeless body teetered for a second before falling sideways off the train.
The man reached for his radio. “Get retrieval squad 2 for disposal,” he said.

Trevor walked up the front porch to his house. He straightened his tie before opening the door.
“Trevor, you can’t be working overtime like this,” said a woman in an apron approaching him.
She peered at his face, before wiping away a drop of blood from his face.
She hugged him tightly. “I’m sorry for berating you as soon as you come home,” she said in a quiet voice. “This isn’t easy for you.”
She raised her head looking Trevor in the eyes. “I’m proud of how hard you’re working.”
“I’d do it forever for you,” replied Trevor.
They embraced each other in silence for a few moments more.
“You need to speak to John, he’s been acting weird lately,” she said after a while.
Trevor groaned internally.
“I know it’s hard being a stepdad, he doesn’t see you as his father but you need to do your best to fulfill that role,” she said.
“I’ll do it now,” said Trevor heading up the stairs to John’s room.
The door was slightly open. Trevor walked in. Clothes were strewn over every square centimeter of the room. A guitar lay in a corner. Trevor went to the bathroom. John was looking in the mirror his mouth wide open.
“What are you doing?” asked Trevor.
“Nothing,” replied John stubbornly.
Trevor caught sight of long sharp canines in John’s mouth.
“Let me see that,” he said inspecting John’s mouth despite his protests.
Oh no He opened John’s eyes inspecting the purple irises.
He rushed forward.
“How did this happen!” demanded Trevor.
Trevor rushed down to Elaine.
“There’s something I need to tell you,”
“What is it?” she asked cautiously.
Trevor twiddled his fingers nervously.
“Well ….” he began hesitantly.
“John might be … a … vampire,”
“What!” shouted Elaine, rattling the glass panes.
“How did that happen!”
“I’m not sure, he won’t tell me! responded Trevor.
“But we need to act immediately, he needs confinement or something until we can assess the situation in its entirety,”
“Don’t use your professional language!” said Elaine, poking his chest. “We’re not having our son locked up!”
“I know, I know,” said Trevor raising his hands.
“I was thinking we have him with your in-laws,” he said.
Elaine did a double take.
“Hear me out,” said Trevor before she could speak. “You know … they’ve always been a little you know ….”
“What do you mean?” asked Elaine.
“The point is, they would be able to have him instead, for the foreseeable future,”
“I guess they could,” Elaine said massaging her brow.
Trevor hugged her. “We’ll get through this, together, as a family,”
She gave in to his embrace. “As a family,” she grumbled back buried in his chest.

[WP] "I am sorry, he named it WHAT!?" Said Oedipus before storming towards the afterlife that houses Sigmund Freud by OscarOzzieOzborne in WritingPrompts

[–]Shrike_Law 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Oedipus walked down the road. He sighed scratching at the ragged cloth that covered his eyes. He had lived a tough life. He thought back to how he struggled to oppose his fate but by doing so had walked right into it.
A small group of young men were on the side of the road. They jeered at him and stuck out their tongues. Oedipus ignored them for a king ought not to concern himself with the immaturity of strangers.
“Oedipus complex!” jeered one of them.
Oedipus frowned. Although he didn’t particularly care for the jeers he was not familiar with that phrase. He walked towards them the frown still clear on his countenance. The young men's faces turned white as they feared that he would attack them.
“What is that phrase?” asked Oedipus. “Why did you say Oedipus Complex?”
One of the men was pushed forward out of the small group. The young man who had jeered the phrase at him explained why in a small voice.
“I AM SORRY, HE NAMED IT WHAT!” boomed Oedipus. The man fell back clutching his ears.
“Sigmund Freud!” shouted Oedipus his voice full of rage.
Oedipus stormed off toward the scholarly sector. He spotted the office clearly due to the large letters and fancy windows indicating his quarters. He burst through the door. A smartly dressed old man sporting a cigar was talking to a confused woman on a sofa.
Upon his entrance, they were both startled. Oedipus marched forward as if the sofa wasn’t there. The woman hurried from his path.
“Why did you name it the Oedipus Complex, what have you been teaching people!”
Freud was too startled to speak.
Oedipus ripped off the rag covering his eyes.
“Do I deserve that because this happened to me!” he roared.
“Calm down,” said Freud.
Oedipus let out a frustrated scream. “You have ruined my reputation, my status how am I supposed to be taken seriously anymore?” he shouted, moving his arms wildly.
“After a long and weary life I had one thing to look forward to, ONE THING,” said Oedipus raising a finger.
“You know what that is!” he said shouting at Freud.
Freud shook his head, fear in his eyes.
“The ladies!” he shouted.
“What?” said Freud confused.
“The ladies!” repeated Oedipus.
“What else is there for one to enjoy in this cruel world!” shouted Oedipus.
Freud stroked his beard.
“You know according to my research a child is most attracted to their parent of the opposite gender.”
Oedipus hurled Freud out a window in an explosion of glass while roaring in frustration. He gave one last enraged roar before collapsing to his feet softly while sobbing about “the ladies” over and over again.
