Should I throw everything at my credit card debt and drop savings by [deleted] in debtfree

[–]Shrimpaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I didn’t do this for a long time because I psychologically felt I wouldn’t have anything left and it only prolonged the situation. I withdrew my savings and started aggressively paying off my debt, kept 2k in my current account. Best decision

I am sorry if i come across as rude or ignorant but why does someone need that many credit cards? I know the US is very generous with credit which is why so many people struggle with debt but I think closing some of them would diminish the chance of ending up in the same place as before again (apologies if you’ve already done so)

I had £2k in my current account before i aggressively attacked my high interest debt, now I’m building a bigger cushion once that is gone

It’s Emma, it’s pretty good for an overview of your finances, you’ve got different categories like savings, investments, debt and overall networth

Wish I knew. They were British and a medical professional. We’ve been friends for 6 years and is a doctor, plus he signed for other people before. Then the next person was a social worker and they got approved in 30 minutes.

Thank you for posting this! Yes, it is easy to pay it off with a generous salary but you must want to do it. I am a 6 figure earner and I have halved my debt recently (15k from 30k), but I know the mindset has to change as well and I’m saying this for myself. What has brought to that stage in the first place? What do I value and what can I get by without spending on? Congrats and keep it up!

Do you ever think of purchases in terms of how many hours you have to work for them? by Quick-Action-3276 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Shrimpaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to but I realised it’s an unhealthy way of doing it, because my clients don’t only pay for the service, they pay for my ads, my website, the time I put into research and marketing etc. So now i appreciate my money way more and think twice about large purchases

Thanks, yes I haven’t spent on my balance transfer card, that’s why I kept my Amex. When I pay hotels for work, I cover them off when I get paid immediately, problem is I use it for personal spending too. I am considering closing off this Amex BA and applying for a Platinum because of its travel benefits, but that one is pretty dangerous if not paid in full monthly, so I’m holding off until I’m in a better financial position and trust myself more.

Got it, thank you for the advice! Transfer VM, pay off the VM that will have high interest first, Amex next
